Need under-stairs storage in Hendon?
Under-stairs storage in Hendon: what you get
The space under a staircase is often the hardest-working spot in a house, and the least organised. Our under-stairs storage is planned around what you need to store, with pull-out drawers, cupboards or a combination of the two. In Hendon, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. If your home has a vacuum cleaner that has nowhere to go and open space under the stairs that collects clutter, that is what under-stairs cupboards are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a family house, the hall and stairs usually carry the most clutter. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around Hendon, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the under-stairs cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot typically do that in an older room.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.
From workshop to your room
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made at the measuring visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want under the stairs, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.
- It starts with some details from you about the space.
- At the design visit we measure and plan how you will use the space.
- We send a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- We make the drawers and cupboards in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The storage is fitted and finished, and we check each pull-out with you before we leave.
- New paint needs time to cure fully, so open and close things gently at first.

Questions from Hendon
Do you make under-stairs storage for homes in Hendon?
Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London, and Hendon is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.
My home in Hendon is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. Under-stairs cupboards are made at our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
How many days does the fitting take?
The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the space and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It’s something we discuss at the design visit.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, use our contact form.
The problems under-stairs storage solve
People who have just moved in, or have just finished a hallway, often want the space under the stairs to match. New storage, painted in a colour chosen for the hall, can tie it together. If decorating is planned, it’s worth mentioning at the design visit so the work can be timed sensibly.
Here’s what under-stairs storage can help with:
- Nowhere to put coats, shoes and bags
- Struggling to reach the gas or electricity meter
- A sloping corner nobody can reach
- An under-stairs cupboard full of clutter
For a flat near Hendon station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- Will the quote be in writing?

Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising at the design visit.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Let us know about it when you get in touch.

- Moving gas pipes under the stairs
- New sockets, lights or wiring, which are for your electrician
