Hendon TV and Media Units

Built-in TV walls and media cabinets, for homes in Hendon. After a design visit and a quote in writing, it is built in our workshop and fitted in your home.

  • A tangle of wires behind the TV
  • Standard units leaving gaps
  • A screen at the wrong height

TV and media units for your home in Hendon

Do you need TV and media units in Hendon?

In an open-plan space, the TV wall is on show from everywhere. A built-in unit gives that wall order and adds storage for the rest of the room.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • Cables trailing across the wall
  • Speakers muffled behind doors
  • Clutter around the TV
  • Equipment running hot in a closed cupboard

If you live near Hendon Park, TV and media units can be planned to frame a window with a view rather than block it.

  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

How to choose a carpenter in London

How we make TV and media units for Hendon

TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in the colour you prefer. We fit across Barnet and the rest of London once the design and quote are agreed. If you’re living with wasted space around the screen and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall, that’s what TV and media units are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Plenty of semis and interwar houses have been extended at the back or had the back rooms knocked through, which matters around Hendon, where homes like these are a big part of the housing. In a long knocked-through room, TV and media units can run the full length of one wall. An extension’s plasterboard walls need different fixings from the original brick or block.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the TV unit we have designed for the room, its materials and its finish, and the workshop works from it.

Common questions about TV and media units

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Hendon?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Do you cover homes near Hendon station?

Yes, homes across Barnet and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Usually not. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. If the building is listed, works affecting its character can need listed building consent, so ask the council’s conservation officer.

Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?

We can plan for either a wall-mounted TV or one standing on the unit. For a wall-mounted TV, the layout works around the bracket position.

Can the TV unit fit a bigger TV later?

The space can be sized for a larger TV. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned during the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

What we do not do

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Plastering or decorating around the unit
  • Any electrical work (your electrician handles that, and Part P covers some of it)
  • Removing a chimney breast or any structural work

Not sure whether your space suits TV and media units? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.

What it is made from

  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Hand-painted finish

Pricing TV and media units in Hendon

To work out the quote, we look at:

  • How square the room is
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Spray painting or hand painting

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Before the design visit

These details help when you get in touch:

  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing for you to look over. To arrange the visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

From workshop to your room

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You get in touch about a built-in TV unit.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and talk about colour and finish.
  3. You get a quote in writing covering the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
  5. We fit it in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied once it is in and is easy to touch up later. Go gently with new paintwork while it cures.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Let us know about parking near your home

How to get a quote

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, use our contact form.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Some closed off-the-shelf cabinets have little ventilation. Ventilation is designed in where equipment sits. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
