Our fitted wardrobes across NW11

Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. A fitted wardrobe can follow the slope, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. Space that’s hard to use otherwise becomes useful storage. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about a bedroom that never feels tidy and standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall.

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections made in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You get in touch and let us know what you keep in your wardrobes now.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

What goes into your quote

Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

Fitted wardrobes across NW11: local notes

Homes across NW11, Hampstead, Finchley and East Finchley among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. Fitted wardrobes can be planned so the room switches between them.

In the NW11 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 46%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. More than a third of the homes in the NW11 postcode district (about 46%) were built before 1919, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths. A quarter or more of the homes in the NW11 postcode district (about 25%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.

Controlled parking zones cover large parts of London, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It is useful to tell us about parking at the design visit.

Temple Fortune: If you live in a flat close to Brent Cross West station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Jude, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

What it costs

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Helping us understand the room

There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, use our contact form.

What prompts fitted wardrobes

An awkward room is another reason. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. We make fitted wardrobes in sections sized to the route into your home, ready to assemble in the room.

What to check before you book

  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through.

Honest limits

We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes
  • Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician

Questions we’re often asked

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.

Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it’s lower. It makes good use of space that’s hard to furnish.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front. We talk through both during the design visit.
