About fitted wardrobes in NW4
Fitted wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in a colour agreed with you. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Typical reasons to get in touch are several odd pieces where one run of storage would do and storage boxes stacked under the bed, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard.
- You get in touch and let us know about the bedroom, and we arrange a design visit.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you.
- We send a written quote for the wardrobes, so you can see what’s included.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop.
- We install the wardrobes, hang the doors and fit the rails, shelves and drawers.
How our quotes work
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
What you get with us
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
- We work across all London boroughs
- A spray or hand-painted finish

How to get a quote
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a written quote. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Bedroom storage across NW4
Homes across NW4, Hendon, Colindale and Grahame Park included, have bedrooms with every kind of quirk. Fitted wardrobes are scribed to the walls and levelled on site. The paint finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.
In the NW4 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 37%) and the years since 2000 (about 23%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Around a third of the homes in NW4 (about 37%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. About 43% of households in the NW4 postcode district live in purpose-built flats, according to Census 2021. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Many blocks have rules on lift booking and working hours, so check with the managing agent before fitting day.
Since August 2023, the Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London, and TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules, so access to homes in NW4 is planned beforehand.
Hendon: If you live near Hendon Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For families living near Hendon School, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in NW4
Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A single run of painted doors looks tidier than mixed furniture, and everything has a place behind it.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do
- Condensation behind a wardrobe on an outside wall
Materials and finishes
Moisture-resistant MDF
Tall doors need a stable material. MDF stays flat and gives a smooth surface for painting.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site once the wardrobes are fitted. Small marks are simple to touch up, and it works well in a period bedroom.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
Caring for painted furniture
A little care keeps the finish looking good. These practical tips help:
- Empty the area where we will be working
- Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
- Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
If you have sliding doors, keep the bottom track clear of dust and fluff to keep them running smoothly. Clear anything that falls into it.
Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can because damp air ends up in the wardrobes. A little ventilation in the room helps.
What affects the price in NW4
What you pay depends on:
- The overall size of the piece
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.
Getting in touch
Ahead of the design visit, we’ll normally ask about:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?
We allow for it from the start. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls.
What happens during the design visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
What materials do you use?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes.
Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?
Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls, using moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.
Do you work outside London?
No. We cover London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.
