Loft Storage in Hendon

Thinking about loft storage in Hendon? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a written quote.

  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • Standard furniture that will not go up the loft stairs
  • A loft room that doubles as an office or guest room

Loft storage for your home in Hendon

Loft storage for homes in Hendon

A sloping ceiling leaves little room for a standard wardrobe. We shape wardrobes to the slope, putting hanging space at the tall end and shelves or drawers where it is low. It makes the most of the room’s height. The design visit in Hendon is where we work it out. Most enquiries start with nowhere to store bags and boxes and a loft room with too many jobs, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Hendon, the hallway may be wider than in a Victorian terrace, with room for a cupboard by the door. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille where there’s a radiator underneath. Each space is measured and eaves cupboards are made to suit it.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf pieces come in the maker’s finishes. We paint the storage in the colour you choose, so it can match the walls and the woodwork. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Where other trades come in

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Converting the loft itself, which is not our work
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion

If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Sloped wardrobe tops
  • Eaves doors and drawers
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is usually more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft, whether it is a converted room or a boarded space.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls, and talk through the design with you.
  3. Your quote sets out the design, the materials and the finish.
  4. Your storage is made in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

How to prepare

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand
  • Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Looking after your furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so go gently with it for a while. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Choose a calm colour for the loft
  • Count the clothes you will need to hang
  • Consider drawers for the deep, low spaces
  • Think about what will go in each cupboard or drawer

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Do not overfill drawers, as heavy loads strain the runners. It helps to clear out now and then. Keep the heaviest things near the floor.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the design visit.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
