Under-stairs storage in World's End, Enfield

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. We make under-stairs storage for homes in World's End, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A sloping corner nobody can reach
  • An old cupboard door that doesn’t suit the hall
  • A vacuum cleaner that has nowhere to go

Need under-stairs storage in World's End?

Is bespoke worth it?

A standard unit knows nothing about your meter or fuse board. Put in the wrong place, it can block the access meter readers and engineers need. A design made for the space keeps them in clear reach from the start. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Fitted furniture is designed around them.

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit.

Why us?

About our under-stairs storage in World's End

Not every staircase is in a house. Maisonettes, split-level flats and homes with stairs down to a lower floor often have usable space beneath the steps. The parts we make in our workshop are sized to get through the doors and hallways on the way in. The same careful process applies to any home in World's End. We make under-stairs cupboards from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a dark, wasted space under the stairs and nowhere to put coats, shoes and bags.

Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around World's End, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Meters and fuse boards stay easy to reach.

The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Where other trades come in

Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Structural changes to the staircase itself
  • Gas pipework, which needs an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
  • Painting the hallway walls and ceiling

If in doubt, you can use our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Fitted storage in World's End

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around World's End were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 51%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 21%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for under-stairs cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. World's End is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If you live on or close to a main road in World's End, let us know during the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

If your home is one of the older houses near St Peter's Church, pull-out drawers can reach right to the back of a deep under-stairs space. For a family home near Grange Park Primary School, under-stairs cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. Living in a block of flats near Grange Park station? Then under-stairs cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

World's End is about 3 miles south-east of Edmonton, part of the London Borough of Enfield. Anywhere in World's End, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We cover places right across Enfield, large and small.

Every home in N21, EN2 and N14 is within our area for under-stairs storage, from the main roads to the quieter streets. If your home is on a street like Viga Road, Maxim Road and Vera Avenue, or close by, we can visit to measure up for under-stairs storage. Neighbouring places we cover for under-stairs storage include Grange Park (1 mile north-east), Oakwood (1 mile west), Southgate (2 miles south-west), Osidge (2 miles south-west) and Palmers Green (2 miles south). Elsewhere in Enfield, we also cover Edmonton (3 miles south-east), New Southgate (3 miles south-west), Bush Hill Park (2 miles east), Upper Edmonton (3 miles south-east), Gordon Hill (2 miles north-east) and Oakthorpe Park (2 miles south).

Your questions about under-stairs storage in World's End

Is World's End in the area you cover for under-stairs storage?

Yes, World's End is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Enfield and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Does a conservation area in or near World's End affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

What is under-stairs storage made from?

Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. Birch plywood holds screws well, which matters for drawers that carry weight. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

How long is the fitting for under-stairs storage?

How long the fitting takes depends on the shape of the space and the number of drawers and doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Drawers, doors and carcasses are all made in the workshop before we arrive. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

Can I send pictures before the visit?

Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the space and the number of drawers and doors, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. First we hear what’s under your stairs now and what you need, like coats, shoes or the vacuum cleaner.
  2. At the design visit, the space is measured and any meters are noted.
  3. The design is agreed and a written quote follows, with the finish set out.
  4. Every part is built in our workshop, ready for a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The storage is fitted, scribed to the stairs and checked with you. The way to any meters is left clear.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Getting a quote

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Practical tips

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Consider the colour of the hall, the stairs and the skirting
  • Plan decorating around the fitting
  • Find out what sits in the space now, from meters to pipes
  • Clear the space before the design visit if you can

Before we leave, we check every drawer and door with you. Any door to a meter or fuse board is checked so it opens fully and leaves the meter in view. You’ll know everything works as planned.

Check now and then that handles and hinges are tight. Tightening a screw early stops a small looseness becoming a problem. If a drawer stops running smoothly, tell us about the room on our contact form and describe it.

What it is made from

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters, as it’s strong and holds screws firmly. Drawer boxes and carcasses that take a load are often made from it. The layered edge can be left on show or painted.

Pull-out drawers

Deep drawers on runners let you use the low end of the space without crawling in. Each one is sized for what it will hold. A set of drawers can step down to follow the line of the stairs.
