How we make wall beds for World's End
In a studio flat, a wall bed can make the main room feel much larger. By day, the room is a living space, and at night it becomes a bedroom. Storage and shelving can go on either side or above, so the whole wall works hard. If you are living with somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep and a flexible room for a growing family, that is what wall beds are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around World's End, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

FAQs: wall beds in World's End
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in World's End?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Grange Park station?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What does a wall bed cost?
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, storage and finish all affect the price. For a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Are fold-down beds safe to use?
A secure fixing and careful use are what matter. The mechanism is fixed exactly as its maker sets out; you lower it steadily with the floor clear.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations. We cannot advise on leases, so please check yours.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A bespoke wall bed takes more planning than buying a unit online. What you get is one design that suits the room and the way you use it. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Bedroom storage in World's End
About 51% of the homes in the streets around World's End went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 21% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. World's End is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. If your home in World's End is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
For an older house near St Peter's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind wall beds is part of the design. If you live near Oakwood Park, keeping wall beds off the window wall keeps the room bright. For a flat near Grange Park station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
World's End is about 3 miles south-east of Edmonton, part of the London Borough of Enfield. Our work covers every London borough and the City of London, World's End included. We cover places right across Enfield.
We cover every part of N21, EN2 and N14 for wall beds. You’ll find streets here such as Viga Road, Maxim Road and Vera Avenue, and we cover homes on all of them for wall beds. If you are just outside World's End, we also cover Grange Park (1 mile north-east), Oakwood (1 mile west), Southgate (2 miles south-west), Osidge (2 miles south-west) and Palmers Green (2 miles south). Other parts of Enfield we cover include Edmonton (3 miles south-east), New Southgate (3 miles south-west), Bush Hill Park (2 miles east), Upper Edmonton (3 miles south-east), Gordon Hill (2 miles north-east) and Oakthorpe Park (2 miles south).

Flats, conversions and lettings
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it during the design visit.
In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
Before and after fitting day
A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. These practical tips help:
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Think about where extra bedding will go
- Keep children away while the bed moves
- Let us know about the wall’s construction
Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch in if the cabinet gets a knock. Spray-painted finishes clean easily with a soft cloth and keep their smooth look.
Think about the route into the room. Furniture made in a workshop comes in sections sized for stairs, landings and lifts, so tell us about narrow stairs or a small lift.
From workshop to your room
The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- You get in touch and describe the room.
- At the design visit we plan the bed cabinet and check the stairs, landings and any lift. Mention parking as well, since vans often need a permit or a paid bay.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The cabinet is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
- The cabinet is joined in the room, fixed securely and set level.
Before fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
