Bedroom storage in World's End
About 51% of the homes in the streets around World's End went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 21% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Part of World's End is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than half of the homes in the area around World's End (about 51%) date from between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.
For a family home near Grange Park Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Close to Oakwood Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For an older house near St Peter's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.

About our fitted wardrobes in World's End
We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. Doors and panels are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the things people most often want solved are mismatched bedroom furniture and clothes with nowhere proper to go.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around World's End, the third bedroom is often small, sitting over the stairs. That is where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

How we price fitted wardrobes
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Parking near your home
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.
Getting in touch
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Your postcode and the borough
If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, fill in our short enquiry form.
How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Starting with a design visit
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Advice
Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Do you cover homes near Grange Park station?
Yes. We cover all of Enfield and the rest of London. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?
The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. That is why we measure the route, not just the room. In a leasehold flat, it is worth checking the lease first.
Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?
The space in front of the wardrobe typically decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, while hinged doors suit rooms with space to open them. We look at it with you when we measure.
What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?
Every job is priced for its room: size, internal fittings, the finish and how tricky the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.
What happens during the design visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases.

What it is made from
Hanging rails
We keep the top rail at a height you can reach without a step. Shelves above the rails hold things used less often.
Moisture-resistant MDF
MDF in a moisture-resistant grade is stable and paints evenly, so we use it for doors, end panels and the faces you see. It is a sensible choice against a colder external wall.
When is bespoke worth it?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
