Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Luxted
A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Moving air helps keep clothes fresh and stops damp building up, and we design the units to allow for it. If you’re living with long and double hanging planned around your clothes and a side each for a couple, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Around Luxted, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so it’s a room shape worth planning for. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Is bespoke worth it?
Ready-made wardrobe systems are easy to buy and often cheaper, and in a simple room they may suit. In an older room with uneven walls and a sloping floor, they leave gaps. Ours is built to the room’s real shape. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.
Why choose us
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- A design visit, then a written quote
- Finished by spray or by hand
- Made for your room, not a standard size

Luxted homes and walk-in wardrobes
In the area around Luxted, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Luxted, Historic England’s list includes Down House (Grade I), about 0.5 miles north, and Luxted Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 76% of households in the neighbourhood around Luxted, according to Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
For a family home near Cudham Church of England Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Living in a block of flats near Chelsfield station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

From workshop to your room
At the end, we tidy up. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it’s worth mentioning at the design visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- You receive a written quote for the walk-in wardrobe.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Before fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves

What affects the price in Luxted
Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The number of doors and drawers
- The overall size of the piece
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
What to send when you get in touch
When you contact us, these help most:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Any ideas or images you have saved
It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To share them, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Chelsfield station?
Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Luxted?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. We design the units to let air move, and any damp on the walls should be sorted before fitting.
Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, use our contact form.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
