Walk-in wardrobes in Bopeep

Walk-in wardrobes in Bopeep: what you get

A walk-in wardrobe needs air moving through it, particularly where it sits against a cooler external wall. Good ventilation helps avoid condensation and mould, so we allow for it in the design. Typical reasons to get in touch are a walk-in wardrobe in a box room and hanging for coats, dresses and shirts, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Bopeep, bedrooms normally have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot give advice on leases.

What happens on fitting day

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop. How long fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. To begin, message us from the contact page; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the walk-in wardrobe.
  4. We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the units in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Preparing the room

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Arranging a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. To book a design visit, use our contact form.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bopeep?

Yes, we work across Bromley, Bopeep included, and across the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

I live near Knockholt station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?

Either works. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, and open storage makes things quick to find. A mix of the two is common.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?

It can be done with some care: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Pricing walk-in wardrobes in Bopeep

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Spray painting or hand painting

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Getting in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we will typically ask about:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • How you want to use the space
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, use our contact form.

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Bopeep

Others want to clear the bedroom of wardrobes. Moving clothes into a separate space leaves the bedroom simpler and quieter to look at.

Here’s what walk-in wardrobes can help with:

  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom
  • A calmer, clearer bedroom
  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room

For a flat near Knockholt station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Where they’ll park and unload

Vans bringing furniture to Bopeep fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
