Walk-in wardrobes for your home in New Charlton
Walk-in wardrobes in New Charlton
We fit walk-in wardrobes in New Charlton and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and talking through the design, followed by a quote. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days, so you’ll know before we start. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are proper shoe storage and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom.
Homes in an area like New Charlton can come from many different periods, so a bedroom could have solid brick walls, lath and plaster, blockwork or plasterboard. Each wall is checked at the design visit before fixings are chosen. With a chimney breast, the alcoves are the obvious place; without one, a full wall usually is.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Boards, parts and paint
Shelves
Shelves suit folded clothes, bags and boxes. Spans and depths are sized so they do not sag.
Hand-painted finish
A hand-painted finish can be done on site, once the units are fitted. Marks are simple to touch in.
From workshop to your room
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. It’s useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.
- You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Preparing the room
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
Arranging a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Advice
New Charlton homes and walk-in wardrobes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 34% of the housing in the streets around New Charlton, with about 29% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of New Charlton, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Luke (Grade II*), about 0.6 miles south, and Church of St Thomas (Grade II), about 0.5 miles east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. A quarter or more of the homes in the streets around New Charlton (about 29%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Bedrooms from that era tend to be regular, so fitted furniture can run wall to wall, fixed to suit the wall.
If you live near Thames Barrier Park, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. For families living near Thorntree Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. The wider area includes historic houses such as Queen's House, about 1.8 miles west. If your own home is a period one, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design.
New Charlton is about 2 miles east of Plumstead, in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and New Charlton is part of that. New Charlton is one of the places in Greenwich where we make walk-in wardrobes, and the borough has 18 places on our list.
We cover every part of the SE7, SE18 and E16 postcode area for walk-in wardrobes. Neighbouring places we cover for walk-in wardrobes include Charlton (1 mile south-east), Westcombe Park (1 mile south-west), Woolwich (1 mile east), Vanbrugh Park Estate (1 mile south-west) and Maze Hill (2 miles south-west). We also make walk-in wardrobes in nearby places such as Plumstead (2 miles east), Eltham (3 miles south), Well Hall (2 miles south), Coldharbour (4 miles south), Kidbrooke (2 miles south) and New Eltham (4 miles south).

We fit furniture in homes around Wildwood Montessori School and The Victoria pub. There is a railway station in New Charlton itself: Charlton station. Well-known places in the area include Charlton Athletic Museum (under half a mile south) and British Hospital for Mothers and Babies (0.6 miles east). Open spaces near New Charlton include Gilbert's Pit.
Flats, leases and landlords
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the design visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Questions we’re often asked
Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in New Charlton?
Yes, we work across Greenwich, New Charlton included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?
Yes, if there’s enough space. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, open or behind doors. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
How is the furniture painted?
You can choose between two finishes: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Honest limits
It is worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Building work to create the room
- Getting consent under your lease
- Lighting and wiring, which are for your electrician
If in doubt, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.
What goes into it
- Shoe storage
- Spray-painted finish
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
- Hanging, shelves and drawers
- Dressing table
- Moisture-resistant MDF
What affects the price in New Charlton
The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. The main factors are:
- How square the room is
- Parking and unloading on your street
- How many doors and drawers there are
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. We will talk through what you need inside at the measuring visit, and the quote follows.
What we need to know
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Where you live, with the postcode
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
To make a start, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.
