Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Vanbrugh Park Estate

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Vanbrugh Park Estate

Many London homes have a small room that is awkward as a bedroom. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about more space for clothes and shoes and a use for a small spare room.

Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. A large share of the homes around Vanbrugh Park Estate date from before 1919, so many bedrooms there may share that layout. Fitted furniture can fill both recesses and bridge the chimney breast with high cupboards, leaving the breast itself clear. The flue behind is kept ventilated, and any damp is sorted first.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so it is clear what’s included.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Drilling into lath and plaster is done with care, so the plaster around stays sound. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about your clothes, shoes and bags and how you get ready.
  2. We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
  4. The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.

Advice

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Vanbrugh Park Estate?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It is useful to let us know about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

My home in Vanbrugh Park Estate is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Walk-in wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Do photos help?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

What we do not do

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:

  • New lights or sockets
  • Advice on your lease
  • Painting the walls of the room

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

Materials and parts

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hanging, shelves and drawers
  • Dressing table
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Shoe storage

When is bespoke worth it?

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, once we have measured the way in.

Why people ask for walk-in wardrobes in Vanbrugh Park Estate

Others want to clear the bedroom of wardrobes. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • A walk-in wardrobe in a box room
  • A walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom
  • Separate space for two people’s clothes
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom

Queen's House, about 0.7 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • A quote in writing that sets out the job
  • Will they visit to measure before quoting?
