Need walk-in wardrobes in Elmers End?

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Elmers End?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elmers End station?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes, if there is enough space. One end or a corner can be set aside with a run of units, with doors or left open. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. A lease can require consent for alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.

Do I get to choose the colour?

The choice is yours, and it is agreed with you before painting. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Elmers End

Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, smaller things go in drawers and shoes can have racks or shelves of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. If you’re living with a use for a small spare room and somewhere for shoes to live, walk-in wardrobes made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Elmers End, bedrooms normally have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You’ll see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Fitting day, step by step

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it’s fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. First, you let us know about the space. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. A written quote is sent to you.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop.
  5. The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t normally do that in an older room.

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

How it is made

Moisture-resistant MDF

Moisture-resistant MDF is stable and takes paint well, giving a smooth finish.

Spray-painted finish

A spray-painted finish is applied in our workshop, giving a smooth, even surface.

Flats, conversions and lettings

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, finished by spray or by hand.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, as well as a bigger outlay. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
