Walk-in wardrobes for your home in Golders Green

How we make walk-in wardrobes for Golders Green

We fit walk-in wardrobes in Golders Green and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, then a quote in writing. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you’ll know before we start. If your home has setting aside a corner of a large bedroom and more space for clothes and shoes, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Older London houses often have sash windows, and the window position and deep reveals affect where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Golders Green, we plan the layout so the window opens fully and the light still comes in. Doors on fitted pieces are hung to clear the bed and any radiator.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the walk-in wardrobe we’ve designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

Questions from Golders Green

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Golders Green?

Yes, we work across Barnet, Golders Green included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having walk-in wardrobes fitted in Golders Green?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly against a cooler external wall. The units are designed with ventilation in mind.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

It’s made in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the design visit.

Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?

Yes. We design the units to make a dressing area within the bedroom, while any new walls are for your builder.

Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?

It’s your choice. Doors keep dust off and give a calm, finished look, and open storage makes things quick to find. A mix of the two is common.

The problems walk-in wardrobes solve

Others want to clear the bedroom of wardrobes. With clothes in a dressing room, the bedroom can feel more restful.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A use for a small spare room
  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes
  • A built-in dressing table
  • Hanging for coats, dresses and shirts

If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Alban the Martyr, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home

Flats, conversions and lettings

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through without a struggle.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the measuring visit.

Fitting day, step by step

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If your hall still has its original tiles or boards, they’re covered before any carrying starts. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. You get in touch and describe the room.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and check how the units will reach the room. It’s useful to mention parking then, as much of London has controlled parking zones.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. Everything is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route in.
  5. We carry the sections in, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls.

How to prepare

  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Ask for a quote

It’s useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To share them, drop us a line using the contact form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Is bespoke worth it?

Fitted storage stays with the house when you move. It is worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before choosing fitted. Standard units assume square rooms, and period homes seldom have them, so it leaves gaps at the wall, tilts on sloping floors or sits awkwardly against skirting and picture rails. Fitted furniture is scribed to the wall instead.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
