Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Fortune Green

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, and open rails make it quick to find things. The choice is yours, and we’ll go through it when we measure. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are hanging for coats, dresses and shirts and turning a box room into a dressing room.

In houses built before 1919, a floor can drop noticeably from one side of a room to the other, and a large share of the homes around Fortune Green are that old. Pieces stand on a levelled plinth or adjustable feet, so doors close square and the gaps stay even. Where the wall bows, the edge is scribed to follow it.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, conversions and lettings

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the design visit.

In a managed block, the building manager or concierge may need notice before we arrive. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Fortune Green

My home in Fortune Green is a period house with walls that are not straight. Is that a problem?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Fixings are chosen for the wall, whether solid brick or lath and plaster.

I live in a flat in Fortune Green. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in as well as the room: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.

Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?

Yes, where the room is large enough. A section of the room can become a dressing area, open or behind doors. Any new partition is for your builder, and we fit the furniture.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Should I send photos?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

From workshop to your room

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving everything tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Terraced streets in London are often lined with parked cars, so details of permits, bays and any loading restrictions help. Unloading is kept short, with sections taken straight inside. Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement.

  1. First, you let us know about the space. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
  3. A written quote is sent to you.
  4. The units are made at our workshop.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer. Each unit is set level and scribed to the walls.

How to prepare

  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Starting with a design visit

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Advice

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

How we price walk-in wardrobes

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • How big the furniture is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

What we need to know

To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that is fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Fortune Green

Homes built before 1919 make up about 58% of the housing in the area around Fortune Green, with about 13% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The Redington Frognall Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Fortune Green. Fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. The council can confirm if you’re not sure. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Fortune Green. Access and parking are talked through during the design visit.

For families living near St Luke's Church of England School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St John, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. Fenton House, about 0.7 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
