About fitted wardrobes in SW16
Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, but they need clear space in front to swing. Sliding doors save that space in a narrow room, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are wasted space beside the chimney breast and a sloping ceiling that’s hard to use.
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
- We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
- We put the design, materials and finish into a written quote. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
- We then make the wardrobes in our workshop.
- We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.
How our quotes work
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.
What you get with us
- Finished by spray or by hand
- Saturdays by arrangement
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Made in our workshop, then fitted in your home
Starting with a design visit
Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly at the design visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Bedroom storage across SW16
If your bedroom in SW16 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. In rooms without one, a full wall of storage often works best. Each design is scribed and levelled on site.
About 45% of the homes in SW16 went up before 1919, and about 27% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. More than a third of the homes in the SW16 postcode district (about 45%) were built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Bedrooms in houses of that age often have a chimney breast and alcoves, which suit wardrobes built to their widths, scribed to walls that are not straight. A quarter or more of the homes in SW16 (about 27%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.
The ULEZ has covered every London borough since August 2023, and red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping, so we plan access to your home in SW16 ahead of fitting day.
Streatham: The wider area includes historic houses like Kingswood House, about 2 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. Living in a block of flats near Streatham station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
When you need someone else
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we don’t do:
- Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
- Decorating or plastering the room
- Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there is typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Do you need fitted wardrobes?
Some bedrooms are hard to furnish. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in awkward spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. We shape fitted wardrobes around those features.
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:
- A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Space under the eaves going to waste
Boards, parts and paint
Moisture-resistant MDF
With no grain to show through, MDF gives a calm painted finish. The moisture-resistant grade is our choice for fitted work.
Birch plywood
Shelves inside a wardrobe carry folded clothes, shoes and boxes. Birch plywood keeps them flat across wider sections.
Flats, leases and landlords
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Questions from SW16
How do I get a quote?
The first step is to fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Do you work in SW16?
Yes. We work across all 32 London boroughs and the City of London, SW16 included.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We don’t plaster or decorate, so any work on the walls is for a plasterer or decorator. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.
Should I send photos?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.
Do you work outside London?
No. We cover London only: all 32 boroughs and the City of London.
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. MDF gives a smooth, stable surface for paint; birch plywood is strong and good for shelves and drawer boxes.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need someone to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
