Norwood Green Walk-in Wardrobes
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Norwood Green starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

Walk-in wardrobes in Norwood Green: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Norwood Green were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 34%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 23%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. 5 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of central Norwood Green. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Hounslow is no exception. Depending on your street in Norwood Green, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit.
For a flat near Southall station, walk-in wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Osterley House, about 0.6 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Osterley House Stables, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Walk-in wardrobes in Norwood Green
A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. It can be a spare room, a box room or part of a bedroom, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is built in our workshop and fitted to the room, so it follows the walls and sits level. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are room for a growing wardrobe and a bedroom without crowded wardrobes.
Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Norwood Green, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, with each piece scribed to the slope and set level.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

Questions we are often asked
Is parking a problem for fitting in Norwood Green?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit.
Do you cover homes near Southall station?
Yes, homes across Hounslow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room.
Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?
Yes. Air needs to circulate around stored clothes, especially on an external wall, which can be colder and damper. We allow for ventilation in the design.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a written quote.
What does a walk-in wardrobe cost?
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. A box room with rails and shelves and a full dressing room with drawers and a dressing table are very different jobs, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form.
How long does fitting take?
It depends on the room. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that is solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. It is useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- We visit to measure up and work out the layout inside, including any dressing table.
- A quote in writing follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
How to prepare
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Arranging a design visit
Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, get in touch through our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.
Related advice
Is bespoke worth it?
Ready-made wardrobe systems are easy to buy and often cheaper, and in a simple room they may suit. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely fit neatly. A bespoke walk-in wardrobe is made to the room. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and those are common in interwar houses. Fitted furniture is made around them.
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.

How we price walk-in wardrobes
The price for your room depends on:
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Spray painting or hand painting
- How big the furniture is
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Helping us understand the room
A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:
- Your postcode and the borough
- Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, send us a few details through our contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.
Practical tips
The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:
- Plan shoe storage around what you own
- Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Measure how much long hanging you need
We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, so hinges allow small adjustments later.
If you want a partition to create the walk-in wardrobe, talk to a builder first. We make and fit the units inside.
