Walk-in wardrobes in Spring Grove: what you get
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Fitted out from wall to wall, it can take the clothes that crowd the bedroom, and the bedroom itself feels calmer. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. Typical reasons to get in touch are separate space for two people’s clothes and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Spring Grove, so that shape of room is worth knowing. We measure every wall, even where the room looks square.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
- Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan for it.
Before the design visit
Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:
- Rough measurements: width, height and depth
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Caring for painted furniture
The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:
- Sort through your clothes before the design visit
- Talk to your electrician early about lighting
- Deal with any damp walls first
- Wipe painted surfaces with a soft, damp cloth
Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Go easy on painted surfaces at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.
Talk to your electrician early about lighting. New lights and wiring are for them, and it is easier to plan the units around it from the start.
Spring Grove homes and walk-in wardrobes
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 34% of the housing in the area around Spring Grove, with about 24% built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 8 entries within half a mile of the centre of Spring Grove. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Spring Grove, as it does anywhere else in London. We plan parking and access with you at the design visit.
If you live near Inwood Park, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Summer House, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a flat close to Isleworth station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Spring Grove?
Yes, Spring Grove is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hounslow and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.
How long does fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. We will talk it through at the measuring visit.
Do you move sockets or add lighting?
No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We will design around them.
Can you turn a small spare room into a dressing room?
Often, yes. The layout depends on the room, the door and the window, so we work it out when we measure.
Should I send pictures?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. You can send them when you use our contact form.
Where other trades come in
Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:
- Painting the walls of the room
- Advice on your lease
- Damp treatment or repairs
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.
Boards, parts and finishes
- Hand-painted finish
- Dressing table
- Shoe storage
- Spray-painted finish
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Hanging, shelves and drawers
- Birch plywood
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
There is a place for both. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. For tricky rooms, period homes or a built-in look, a bespoke design tends to earn its place. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
What you get with us

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- You let us know about the room.
- We come to measure and discuss the design.
- A quote in writing follows.
- The units are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
Before we arrive
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
How to get a quote
The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a written quote, so you can take your time with it. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.
