Walk-in wardrobes in North Hyde: what you get
Most designs start with the hanging. Long hanging suits coats and dresses, while double hanging, one rail above another, fits shirts and jackets into half the height. We plan the mix around what you actually wear. Typical reasons to get in touch are turning a box room into a dressing room and a dressing area in part of a bedroom; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and the walls in a bedroom might be brick, blockwork, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Each wall is checked during the design visit before fixings are chosen. With a chimney breast, the alcoves are the obvious place; without one, a full wall usually is.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Questions from North Hyde
Does a conservation area in or near North Hyde affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
I live near Southall station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
We need access, so someone has to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.
Can you build a dressing area in my bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, and we fit the furniture once any building work is done.
Do pictures help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Flats, leases and landlords
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you get in touch.
North Hyde homes and walk-in wardrobes
In the area around North Hyde, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 29%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. The centre of North Hyde is within about a quarter of a mile of the Canalside Conservation Area. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Hounslow are set locally. Depending on your street in North Hyde, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. We ask about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
If your children go to Norwood Green Infant and Nursery School or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Osterley House, about 1.3 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. Living in a block of flats near Southall station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. Floors and doorways are protected before anything comes in. Sections are then carried in and assembled.
- First, you let us know about the space. A line on how you will use the room helps.
- The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, planned around the way you get dressed.
- A written quote is sent to you, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The units are made at our workshop.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted in your home.
Before we arrive
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Tell us about parking near your home
