Walk-in wardrobes in Heston, Hounslow
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in Heston starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.
- Somewhere for shoes to live
- Setting aside a corner of a large bedroom
- A use for a small spare room

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Heston
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Heston were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 44%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 33%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Near the centre of Heston, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Leonard (Grade II*), less than half a mile east, and Vicarage of St Leonards Parish Church (Grade II), under half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Hounslow are set locally. Depending on your street in Heston, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.
If you live in a flat close to Southall station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. If your children go to Westbrook Primary School or a school nearby, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Osterley House, about 1.2 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.
Heston is about 2 miles south-east of Hounslow, within the London Borough of Hounslow. We cover Heston as part of our work across Hounslow. Our Hounslow coverage includes Heston.
We cover every part of the TW5, UB2 and TW3 postcode area for walk-in wardrobes. We cover homes on streets such as Fern Lane, Sutton Road and Eton Avenue, whether you want walk-in wardrobes or another piece made for the room. The A3005 runs close to Heston, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you get in touch. We also cover North Hyde (1 mile north), Norwood Green (1 mile north-east), Lampton (1 mile south-east), Hounslow West (1 mile south) and Osterley (1 mile east). Elsewhere in Hounslow, we also cover Hounslow (2 miles south-east), Feltham (3 miles south-west), Brentford (3 miles east), Isleworth (2 miles south-east), Chiswick (5 miles east) and Strand-on-the-Green (4 miles east).

For a walk, there’s Garden Lake.
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Heston
Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Shelves suit folded clothes and bags, smaller things go in drawers and shoes can have racks or shelves of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there is space. Typical reasons to get in touch are the right mix of long and short hanging and a calmer, clearer bedroom, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around Heston, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That is where walk-in wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Questions we are often asked
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Heston?
Yes. We cover all of Hounslow and the rest of London, and Heston is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Heston?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
How long will the walk-in wardrobe take to fit?
How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We’ll talk it through at the design visit.
Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?
Standard systems come in set widths and heights and rarely reach the ceiling. A bespoke design can run to the ceiling and fill the walls, which can add a lot of storage. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.
Spray-painted finish
You choose the colour, and we apply it in the workshop.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Honest limits
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:
- New lights or sockets
- Painting the walls of the room
- Building work to create the room
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are typically straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- It starts with a short note from you.
- We come to measure and talk through the design.
- You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
- The units are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the units and trim the edges to meet the walls and ceiling.
- Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
How to prepare
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
