Questions we are often asked
Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Sanderstead?
Yes, we work across Croydon, Sanderstead included, and across the rest of London. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Do you cover homes near Riddlesdown station?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.
Can you put a walk-in wardrobe in part of a bedroom?
Yes. A run of units can define a dressing area, while any new walls are for your builder.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Uneven walls are normal in older London homes, and the furniture is made to deal with them. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, then send a quote in writing.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Sanderstead
Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in Sanderstead and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, we make the units in our workshop and fit them in your home. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about room for a growing wardrobe and hanging for coats, dresses and shirts.
The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, so fitted storage normally goes on the walls either side while the bay stays open. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Sanderstead, so that shape of room is worth knowing. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.
Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
If you’d like the units to match the room’s woodwork, hand painting on site works well.
Doors and drawer fronts
We can include a dressing table with drawers where there’s space.
Caring for painted furniture
The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:
- Count your shoes before the design visit
- Leave room for air behind hanging clothes
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Decide on doors or open storage before we measure
We adjust doors and drawers as part of the fitting. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, and ventilation inside the units helps.
How fitting day works
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- To begin, fill in our short enquiry form; a brief note on the room and what it needs to store is plenty.
- At the design visit we measure the room and plan hanging lengths, shelves, drawers and shoe storage with you.
- A written quote follows, setting out the layout, materials and finish.
- We build the carcasses, shelves and drawers in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The walk-in wardrobe is fitted, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the inside fittings go in last.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Keep pets in another room while we work
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
How to get a quote
Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.
Advice
Bedrooms in Sanderstead: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Sanderstead were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 31%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Sanderstead include Church of All Saints (Grade I), less than half a mile east, and The White House (Grade II), under half a mile east. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Around a third of the homes in the area around Sanderstead (about 31%) were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Post-war bedrooms are usually simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.
If you live near Littleheath Woods, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. Addington Palace, about 2.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For families living near Gresham Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller.

What else we make in Sanderstead
What affects the cost of walk-in wardrobes
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The number of doors and drawers
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Where a van can park, such as a permit bay or a bay suspension
- The overall size of the piece
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
What we need to know
When you contact us, these help most:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.
What walk-in wardrobes can’t fix
Before you plan the job, it’s useful to know what we don’t do:
- Fixing the cause of damp
- Plastering, decorating or flooring
- Advice on your lease
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room. How it works.
