South Croydon Walk-in Wardrobes

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on walk-in wardrobes in South Croydon starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.

  • Somewhere to sit and get ready
  • More space for clothes and shoes
  • A bedroom without crowded wardrobes

Bespoke walk-in wardrobes or ready-made?

A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. In return, the layout is built around your clothes and your room. Standard furniture is drawn for modern rooms, so its proportions can look odd in a tall period room, whereas fitted pieces can pick up the room’s height and mouldings, with panels and details to suit the house.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Why choose us

  • A spray or hand-painted finish
  • Built around your room
  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • We work across all London boroughs

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in South Croydon

Our walk-in wardrobes are made for homes in South Croydon and all over London. It starts with a design visit to measure and plan the layout, then a written quote. Everything is made at our workshop and fitted in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If your home has somewhere for shoes to live and a dressing table with drawers and a mirror, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Victorian and Edwardian bedrooms typically have a chimney breast on one wall and a recess either side. That layout is worth knowing around South Croydon, where a large share of homes were built before 1919. Storage can go in each recess, with a bridge of cupboards over the chimney breast. Any capped chimney is kept ventilated.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

What it costs

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • The internal fittings
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Helping us understand the room

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. It’s useful to include:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

Walk-in wardrobes for homes in South Croydon

The biggest shares of homes in the area around South Croydon were built before 1919 (about 52%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 17%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of South Croydon include Church of St Augustine (Grade II*), under half a mile west, and Croham Hurst House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles east. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home in South Croydon is on or near a main road, tell us during the design visit. Then we can work out where to load and unload.

The wider area includes historic houses such as Addington Palace, about 2.4 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give walk-in wardrobes room to reach the cornice. For a family home near Purley Oaks Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. For a flat near Sanderstead station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

South Croydon is within the London Borough of Croydon, about 3 miles north of Thornton Heath. We can visit homes in South Croydon on weekdays, or on a Saturday by arrangement. South Croydon is one of 32 places on our list for Croydon.

Could you do it yourself?

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in South Croydon?

Yes, South Croydon is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Croydon and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

My house in South Croydon is Victorian. Can you deal with uneven walls?

Yes. Walls in older houses are rarely flat or square, and floors are often out of level, so each piece is scribed to follow the wall and set level on a plinth or adjustable feet. Skirting, picture rails and cornices are met neatly or cut around. Older walls can be solid brick or lath and plaster, and the fixings are chosen to suit.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes. A room full of clothes needs air moving through it, particularly against a cooler external wall. We allow for ventilation in the design.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Original hallway tiles and old floorboards are worth protecting, so they’re covered before anything comes in. Fixings into older walls are made carefully, as lath and plaster can crack if treated roughly. Decorating around the furniture afterwards is for your decorator.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold, from long coats to shoes.
  2. We visit to measure up and go through the layout, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room. We then check the doors and drawers with you.
