  • A dormer that isn’t being used
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture

Need loft storage in Sanderstead?

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. Someone needs to let us in, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the loft and the stairs up to it.
  2. At the design visit we plan the storage and measure the stairs, landings and loft doorway. Let us know about parking too, as a van often needs a permit or a paid bay.
  3. A quote in writing follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We build the storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to get up to the loft.
  5. The sections go up the stairs, are assembled under the eaves and set level. The finish is sprayed in the workshop or hand-painted in the loft.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall

How we make loft storage for Sanderstead

Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. Each piece is scribed to the dormer. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in Sanderstead, we will look at what fits. If your home has a boarded loft that’s hard to keep organised and needing storage in a loft office, eaves cupboards made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. With interwar houses, semis and detached homes a large part of the housing around Sanderstead, fitted storage near the front door can take much of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the eaves cupboard designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and it is what the workshop builds to.

Pricing loft storage in Sanderstead

Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. These are the things that affect it:

  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • How big the furniture is
  • The internal fittings

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What to send when you get in touch

Before the design visit, it helps us to know about:

  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Examples of the look you’re after

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route at the measuring visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. In a loft room, standard pieces leave tricky gaps under the slope. Bespoke storage follows the angle of the ceiling and fills the knee wall. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece can’t reach. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.

The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside.

Making use of tricky spaces in Sanderstead

In the area around Sanderstead, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 39%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 31%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Sanderstead, Historic England’s list includes Church of All Saints (Grade I), less than half a mile east, and The White House (Grade II), less than half a mile east. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 31% of homes in the neighbourhood around Sanderstead were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). In a post-war house with a converted loft, the space under the slopes is worth using; we build once the loft is converted or boarded.

Addington Palace, about 2.3 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, sloping ceilings in a loft room suit wardrobes cut to the angle. Your questions about loft storage in Sanderstead

Do you make loft storage for homes in Sanderstead?

Yes. We cover all of Croydon and the rest of London, and Sanderstead is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

I live near Riddlesdown station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.

How long will the loft storage fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

Can a wardrobe follow a sloping ceiling?

Yes. Bespoke wardrobes are made to the angle of the ceiling. The tall end takes hanging space, and the low end can hold shelves or drawers. It is scribed to the slope and walls.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, the conversion itself isn’t our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, including eaves cupboards, knee-wall drawers and wardrobes.

Boards, parts and paint

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting gives the storage a very even surface. We apply it in our workshop, and the paint needs time to cure fully once fitted.

Pull-out drawers

Drawers along the knee wall make a neat, low run of storage. The top can act as a shelf. We agree the layout during the design visit.
