About our walk-in wardrobes in Snaresbrook

A walk-in wardrobe can also be part of a bedroom. Where a bedroom is large enough, a section can be set aside with a partition or a run of units, with doors or left open. Building a new stud partition is building work, so that’s for your builder, while we make and fit the furniture. People typically come to us about a walk-in wardrobe in a box room and a dressing area in part of a bedroom, and the answer is made at our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

The front bedroom in many 1920s and 1930s houses sits above a bay, which leaves the side walls for storage and the bay for light. Around Snaresbrook, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so it is a room shape worth planning for. Every wall is measured, as a room that looks square rarely is.

Our quotes are written in plain words. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Snaresbrook

Is Snaresbrook in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes. We cover all of Redbridge and the rest of London, and Snaresbrook is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.

I live in a flat in Snaresbrook. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do I choose the paint colour?

The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.

Do I need doors on a walk-in wardrobe?

There’s no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we’ll talk it through during the design visit.

Do walk-in wardrobes need ventilation?

Yes, it helps keep clothes fresh and damp away. The design allows air to circulate and walls should be dry before we fit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, but it is useful to be around at the end.

Bedroom storage in Snaresbrook

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 33% of the housing in the streets around Snaresbrook, with about 27% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Snaresbrook include Forest School (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and Forest School Chapel (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can need listed building consent from the council. It’s worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. About 42% of households around Snaresbrook live in purpose-built flats, well above the figure for Redbridge as a whole, about 25%, in the ONS Census 2021 figures. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.

If you live in a period home close to Church of St Peter in the Forest, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind walk-in wardrobes is part of the design. The wider area includes historic houses such as Valentines Mansion, about 2.4 miles south-east. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

We use birch plywood where strength matters, which suits drawer boxes and shelves. The edge can be left on show or painted.

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site after fitting. Marks are simple to touch in.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Tell us about them during the design visit.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of.

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Snaresbrook?

Some homes have a small room that never quite earns its keep. Turning it into a dressing room can make better use of it instead of a store for odds and ends.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • The right mix of long and short hanging
  • A dressing area in part of a bedroom
  • A dressing table with drawers and a mirror
  • Room for two wardrobes in one space

For a flat near Wood Street station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber

How to choose a carpenter in London

Is bespoke worth it?

Neither choice is right for every home. In a square room with a tight budget, a ready-made system may be enough. Where the room is tricky or you want it to feel built in, bespoke is usually the better fit. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a bay, a box room or a bulkhead over the stairs, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as we’ll have talked about at the measuring visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the room and what you want to store.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The units are made and finished in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Getting a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
