Fitted bedroom furniture in Woodcote
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 37% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Woodcote, with about 25% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Woodcote is partly covered by the Upper Woodcote Village Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. It applies to the vans that deliver and fit furniture in Woodcote, as it does anywhere else in London. How the van gets to your door is planned at the measuring visit.
Close to Dollypers Hill? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For families living near Woodcote High School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live in a flat close to Reedham (London) station, the route in is measured not just the room, and the sections are sized to fit it.
Woodcote is about 5 miles north of Thornton Heath, part of the London Borough of Croydon. Woodcote is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Across Croydon, we cover Woodcote, along with the rest of the borough.
We work across CR8, CR5 and SM6. Streets in the area include Elton Road, Birch Lane and Newton Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for walk-in wardrobes. If you are just outside Woodcote, we also cover Woodcote Green (1 mile north-west), Peaks Hill (1 mile north-east), Purley (1 mile east), Little Woodcote (1 mile west) and Coulsdon (1 mile south). Across the rest of Croydon, our area takes in Thornton Heath (5 miles north), Croydon (3 miles north-east), Broad Green (4 miles north), Upper Norwood (6 miles north), Selhurst (5 miles north-east) and South Norwood (5 miles north-east).

Walk-in wardrobes in Woodcote
With a walk-in wardrobe, clothes, shoes and bags have a space to themselves. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. Everything is made in our workshop and fitted to the room, scribed to the walls and set level. If you’re living with storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe and the right mix of long and short hanging, that is what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Woodcote, bedrooms are often straightforward shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. Fitted furniture can run along the longest wall, with the inside arranged to suit you. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.
If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Ready-made wardrobe systems are easy to buy and often cheaper, and in a square room they can work. In an older room with uneven walls and a sloping floor, they leave gaps. A bespoke walk-in wardrobe is made to the room. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Woodcote
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Woodcote?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Woodcote?
Yes, we work across Croydon, Woodcote included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details.
Should a walk-in wardrobe have doors?
There’s no single right answer. We can fit doors, open storage or both, and we go through the options when we measure.
Who chooses the colour?
You choose it. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
How long does fitting take?
How long fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
The furniture is built in sections, each one sized to fit the way in. That’s why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways at the measuring visit.
What affects the price in Woodcote
To work out the quote, we look at:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- How big the furniture is
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- How many doors and drawers there are
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.
What we need to know
These details help when you get in touch:
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- The type of home and how the room is reached
- Approximate measurements of the space
- How you want to use the space
It is useful to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, tell us about the room on our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray or hand-painted finish.
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.
From workshop to your room
When we arrive on fitting day, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are usually simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going.
- First, you let us know about the space. A line on how you’ll use the room helps.
- We visit, measure and talk through hanging, shoe storage and a dressing table, planned around the way you get dressed.
- A written quote is sent to you.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit everything in your home and check every door and drawer.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
Getting a quote
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, use our contact form.
Advice
Could you do it yourself?
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder.
