Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Roundshaw

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, fitted out with hanging, shelves and drawers. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, so it follows the walls and sits level. We make walk-in wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are a calmer, clearer bedroom and storage for clothes that have outgrown the wardrobe.

In a compact bedroom, the swing of hinged doors can clash with the bed, so sliding doors or a careful layout can help. Many homes around Roundshaw were built since 2000, and bedrooms in newer homes are often compact. We measure the space in front as well as the wall.

If the job needs another trade, such as an electrician or a plumber, we will tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What prompts walk-in wardrobes in Roundshaw

A spare room or box room that rarely gets used is another reason. Turning it into a dressing room can make better use of it instead of a store for odds and ends.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Somewhere to sit and get ready
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
  • More space for clothes and shoes
  • Somewhere for shoes to live

If your children go to Wallington Primary Academy or a school nearby, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. The time the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily.

  1. We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold, from long coats to shoes.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the hanging, shelves and drawers, including any dressing table.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build everything in our workshop.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

How to prepare

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Advice

Why bespoke in Roundshaw?

Open rail systems are simple and adaptable, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, painted to match the room. In a newer flat, big flat-pack units can be hard to get into the lift or through the door, while fitted furniture comes in sections sized for the route. The sections are joined and fixed once inside.

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Why us?

  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Every London borough and the City of London covered
  • Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
  • Saturday work by arrangement

FAQs: walk-in wardrobes in Roundshaw

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

I live near Wallington station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with some details about the room.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

We plan the route in during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That’s normal in older homes, and it is what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.

Roundshaw homes and walk-in wardrobes

About 40% of the homes in the streets around Roundshaw went up since 2000, and about 27% between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Roundshaw is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission in a conservation area, as the controls are mainly about the outside of buildings. If you are unsure, check with the council before work starts. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Sutton are set locally. If your road in Roundshaw falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the design visit.

If you live near Waddon Ponds, keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a period home close to St. Paul's, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
