Fitted wardrobes designed for your room
Fitted wardrobes in Woodcote: what you get
Some bedrooms suit wardrobes that wrap around the bed, with cupboards each side and a run of storage above the headboard. In other rooms, the units sit either side of a window, sometimes with a dressing table or a window seat between them. We plan the layout so the room still feels open. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and dusty space on top of the wardrobe.
Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around Woodcote, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. The skirting is scribed around rather than removed.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Woodcote homes and fitted wardrobes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Woodcote were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 37%) and since 2000 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Within a mile of the centre of Woodcote, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. Historic England says England has around 10,000, and the controls mainly cover the outside of buildings. About 37% of homes in the area around Woodcote date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.
For a flat near Reedham (London) station, the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. If your home is one of the older houses near St Swithun's, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Woodcote is about 5 miles north of Thornton Heath, within the London Borough of Croydon. From period terraces to newer flats in Woodcote, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across Croydon, large and small.
Design visits and fitting in CR8, CR5 and SM6 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. We cover homes on streets such as Elton Road, Birch Lane and Newton Road, for fitted wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Neighbouring places we cover for fitted wardrobes include Woodcote Green (1 mile north-west), Peaks Hill (1 mile north-east), Purley (1 mile east), Little Woodcote (1 mile west) and Coulsdon (1 mile south). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places such as Thornton Heath (5 miles north), Croydon (3 miles north-east), Broad Green (4 miles north), Upper Norwood (6 miles north), Selhurst (5 miles north-east) and South Norwood (5 miles north-east).

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Woodcote
Do you cover homes near Reedham (London) station?
Yes, homes across Croydon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls, using moisture-resistant MDF. If there is damp on the wall already, it should be sorted first.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We talk through both during the design visit.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we will see what we can do.
Boards, parts and paint
Hand-painted finish
With hand painting, you see the colour in your own room’s light. Scribed edges and joins are painted along with the rest.
Doors and drawer fronts
Door styles range from simple flat fronts to panelled ones. They’re painted to match or contrast with the walls.
What else we make in Woodcote
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Woodcote
An awkward room is another reason. A sloping ceiling, a chimney breast, a low window or a door in the wrong place can defeat standard furniture. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.
If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
- Too little room for clothes
Close to Dollypers Hill? Fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
What to check before you book
- Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
Flats, blocks and rented homes
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the measuring visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease.
When you need someone else
We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:
- Treating damp or mould on the walls
- Building work to create a loft room
- Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Fitting day, step by step
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.
- You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
- At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
- You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish.
- The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.
Before fitting day
- Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Keep pets in another room while we work
How to get a quote
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, message us from the contact page.
