Wall beds in Bromley, Tower Hamlets

Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on wall beds in Bromley starts with a design visit, and everything is made in our workshop.

  • More floor space in a studio flat
  • Shelves or a desk around the bed
  • Somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep

Bed mechanism housing

We build the housing to suit the mechanism and fix it as the maker specifies. The front can look like a set of cupboards.

Spray-painted finish

You choose the colour, and we apply it in the workshop.

Wall beds in Bromley: what you get

We build the bed housing from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray painted in our workshop or hand painted. Doors on the front can look like a run of cupboards, so the room doesn’t read as a bedroom by day. If you are living with a living room with a bed that folds away and a flexible room for a growing family, that’s what wall beds are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Stud walls in newer homes can carry pipes and cables, so the walls are checked before anything is fixed. Many homes around Bromley date from 2000 onwards, so this check is routine. Tall pieces are tied into the studs, not just the board.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

What happens on fitting day

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so fixings go into the studs or use fixings made for the board. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we agree the layout and the colour.
  3. A written quote follows.
  4. We build the cabinets in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly.

Before fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Ask for a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Common questions about wall beds

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Ham station?

Yes, homes across Tower Hamlets and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Bromley?

It can be: much of inner London is covered by controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?

That’s something we look at when we measure. Different walls need different fixings, and the mechanism maker sets out what’s required.

How much does a wall bed cost?

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, storage and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on, so check it or ask your managing agent.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

The furniture is built in sections. At the design visit, we measure the route along with the room itself.

What we don’t do

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Mattresses, which you choose to suit the mechanism
  • Getting consent under your lease
  • Building work to make a wall sound

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can fill in our short enquiry form and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it’s made from

  • Birch plywood
  • Shelves or a desk alongside
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Fold-down bed mechanism

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Standard units seldom reach the ceiling or fit wall to wall. We can build to the full height and width and fill the rest of the wall with storage. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.

How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Bromley

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Bromley were built since 2000 (about 52%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 18%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for wall beds, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. There are 60 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Bromley. Original fireplaces, shutters and panelling are worth keeping where they survive, and wall beds can be designed to work around them. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your street in Bromley joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

If you live in a flat close to West Ham station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For families living near St Agnes RC Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Near listed buildings like Tide Mill (known As the House Mill), under half a mile north-east of the centre of Bromley, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.
