Window seats for your home in Bromley
Materials and finishes
Doors and drawer fronts
Fronts are made from moisture-resistant MDF and painted to your colour. Panelled fronts can echo the woodwork in a period room. The lines are kept neat and even.
Pull-out drawers
Drawers under a window seat are easy to reach, even with a cushion on top. They suit toys, books and things you use often. We size the drawers to suit the seat.
Window seats in Bromley
Sash windows are a feature of many older London homes. A seat beneath one needs to sit below the cill so the window still opens and closes easily. Where there are working shutters, the seat must leave room for them to fold back. These details are measured when we visit your home in Bromley. We make window seats from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are wanting a seat without blocking the radiator and a sash window with space beneath it going to waste.
A large number of homes around Bromley date from 2000 onwards, and in London many homes of that age are flats in newer developments. Boilers, cylinders and consumer units often sit in a hall cupboard, and any new storage keeps their access and ventilation. Cupboards can be shallow where space is tight.
Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Do you need window seats in Bromley?
The most common reason is wanting to make more of a bay or window. A bay can be an tricky space for furniture, and a seat makes it part of the room. It becomes a place to sit, read or look out.
Typical reasons people contact us include:
- Standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay
- An empty bay that doesn’t get used
- No space for toys and games
- A room with shutters and sashes that deserves a proper seat
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Tide Mill (known As the House Mill), original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Storage in Bromley homes: local notes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 52% of the housing in the streets around Bromley, with about 18% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Within a mile of the centre of Bromley, 19 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings. More than half of the homes in the streets around Bromley (about 52%) were built since 2000, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Newer homes often have little built-in storage, and their walls are usually plasterboard on studs, so window seats are designed with fixings to suit.
If your children go to St Agnes RC Primary School or a school nearby, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live in a flat close to West Ham station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Questions we’re often asked
Do you cover homes near West Ham station?
Yes. We cover all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can you make window seats for a home in Bromley?
Yes, Bromley is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Tower Hamlets and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.
Who chooses the colour?
You do. We agree the colour with you.
Is it possible to have a window seat above a radiator?
Yes. Many windows have a radiator beneath, and we design the seat around it. The front includes a grille so the radiator keeps working. Anything stored over the radiator will stay warm, so we plan the storage with that in mind.
Is a lid or drawers better for a window seat?
Often a mix works best. Drawers suit things you use often, and a lid suits bulky items. In a child’s room, drawers tend to be simpler for small hands. We talk it through when we visit.
How long is the fitting for a window seat?
How long the fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. The seat is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We keep the room as tidy as we can while we work.
Honest limits
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. That means:
- Moving or replacing a radiator, which is for your plumber
- Fabric covers and cushions
- Electrical work around the seat

Is bespoke worth it?
Off-the-shelf benches are made for straight walls and square corners, and bay windows rarely offer either. A bench in a bay leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space at the corners. A bespoke seat follows the shape of the bay. It is a bigger investment, and the gain is a seat that fits the space. Separate ready-made pieces can make an open-plan room feel unplanned, whereas fitted furniture can define each part of the room.
Rooms that are not square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it.

What happens on fitting day
If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it’s useful to let us know at the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- You send us a note about the window and the seat you’d like.
- At the design visit we agree the seat and talk about colour, with a choice of spray painting or hand painting.
- You receive a quote in writing for the design, materials and finish.
- The seat is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood; a spray-painted finish is done there for a smooth, even surface.
- The seat is fitted and scribed, and any hand painting is done on site.
- Give new paintwork gentle use while it cures; a hand-painted finish is easy to touch up later.
How to prepare
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Ask for a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you’re ready, get in touch through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
