Fitted wardrobes in Hornsey, Haringey

We make fitted wardrobes for homes in Hornsey, designed around the room you have. We design your fitted wardrobe at a visit to your home, make it in our workshop and fit it.

  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do

Fitted wardrobes in Hornsey

You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. Most enquiries start with storage boxes stacked under the bed and a tight bedroom where doors get in the way, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Sash windows are common in Victorian and Edwardian houses, and their position, along with any shutters, affects where furniture can go. For one of the older homes that make up a large share of the housing around Hornsey, the layout lets the sash open fully and keeps the light unblocked. Doors are chosen and hung so they clear the bed, the radiator and the door to the room.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Is it time for fitted wardrobes?

An awkward room is another reason. Slopes, chimney breasts, low windows and doors in awkward spots leave standard wardrobes with nowhere to go. Fitted wardrobes are shaped around them.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Storage boxes stacked under the bed
  • Bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes
  • An awkward slope in a loft bedroom
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Tower of Old Parish Church of St Mary, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • How doors and drawers are fitted

Bedroom storage in Hornsey

Homes built before 1919 make up about 63% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Hornsey, with about 18% built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 11 conservation areas have at least part of their area within a mile of the centre of Hornsey. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Haringey is inside it. Vans bringing furniture to Hornsey fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

If you live in a period home close to Church of Holy Innocents, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design. Bruce Castle, about 2 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Hornsey is part of the London Borough of Haringey, about 2 miles east of Tottenham. Anywhere in Hornsey, the process is the same: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. Our Haringey coverage includes Hornsey.

Every home in N8 and N22 is covered for fitted wardrobes. Our area takes in homes on streets like High Street, Brandon Place and Cross Lane, along with the roads around them, for fitted wardrobes and any of our other fitted furniture. Nearby, we also make fitted wardrobes in Turnpike Lane (1 mile east), Crouch End (1 mile south-west), Stroud Green (1 mile south-east), Wood Green (1 mile north-east) and Noel Park (1 mile north-east). Elsewhere in Haringey, we also cover Tottenham (2 miles east), Tottenham Green (2 miles east), South Tottenham (2 miles east), Seven Sisters (2 miles east), Highgate (2 miles south-west) and Broadwater Farm (2 miles east).

What affects the price in Hornsey

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. This is what makes the difference:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • The width and height of the space
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit.

Helping us understand the room

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

For a quote for fitted wardrobes in Hornsey, drop us a line using the contact form. Let us know which room it is and roughly what you have in mind, with sizes if you have them. Next comes a design visit, followed by a written quote.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.

If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

FAQs: fitted wardrobes in Hornsey

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hornsey?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

How do you fit fitted wardrobes in a flat in Hornsey?

At the design visit, we measure the way in not just the room. Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

How is the price worked out?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

The inside is planned around your clothes. Long hanging, double hanging, shelves, drawers and shoe space can all be included, in the proportions you need. We talk it through during the design visit.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes. Wardrobes on outside walls are designed with ventilation behind and inside, in moisture-resistant MDF. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

Is it possible to build wardrobes into a loft room with a slope?

Yes. We shape the wardrobe to follow the slope, with long hanging where there is height and shelves or drawers where it is lower. It makes good use of space that’s hard to furnish.

Fitting day, step by step

Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details, so it looks as though it was always there. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In houses converted into flats, the route in may include a shared hall and stairs, so it is useful to let neighbours know about fitting day. The sections are sized for the narrowest point on the route. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. To begin, drop us a line using the contact form; a brief note on the bedroom and what you need to store is enough.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and plan the inside: long hanging, double hanging, shelves and drawers.
  3. The written quote sets out each wardrobe’s inside layout, the doors, the materials and the finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for the rails, shelves and drawers you chose.
  5. We fit the wardrobes in your home, then put in the rails, shelves and drawers at the heights we agreed.

Before fitting day

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Starting with a design visit

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, particularly with rough sizes. To share them, message us from the contact page, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Advice

Tips worth knowing

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Think about whether hinged doors will clear the bed
  • Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have
  • Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall beforehand

Leave a little space between clothes and the back of the wardrobe where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.

Every so often, check that nothing has worked loose and adjust any door that starts to catch.
