Wall beds in North Woolwich
The cabinet is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish. From the front, the folded bed can look like a set of tall cupboards, so the room does not read as a bedroom by day. We make wall beds from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about a storage wall with a bed inside and room for a desk and a guest bed.
Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 sometimes have big windows that take up much of a wall, so the remaining walls have to work harder. Many homes around North Woolwich were built since 2000, so we make the most of the walls you have. Corners are designed in rather than left as dead space.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the wall bed designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

What happens on fitting day
However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the bed and the cabinets around it, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Parking at newer developments can be restricted, with private bays or loading areas, so it helps to let us know during the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.
- We start with how the room is used and who’ll sleep there. The bed can sit among shelves or beside a desk.
- We visit to measure up and look at what the wall is made of, as the bed must be fixed securely.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish.
- We build and finish everything in our workshop.
- Fitting day: the cabinet is fitted and the bed checked as it lowers and lifts.

How we price wall beds
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:
- How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
- How big the furniture is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- The number of doors and drawers
Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured.
Helping us understand the room
You do not need exact measurements or a plan. Just send what you can:
- Any ideas or images you’ve saved
- Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.
North Woolwich homes and wall beds
About 40% of the homes in the streets around North Woolwich went up since 2000, and about 26% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. There are 5 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of North Woolwich. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. About 8% of homes around North Woolwich were built before 1919, well below the figure for Newham as a whole, about 37%, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. So the walls behind wall beds here are more likely to be later brick, block or plasterboard, and they’re checked at the design visit.
Close to Beckton District Park? A bedroom facing the green is best kept light, with the furniture on the side walls. If you live in a flat close to Woolwich Dockyard station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. Near listed buildings like Church of St Mary Magdalene, about 0.6 miles south of the centre of North Woolwich, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we’ve measured the way in.
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
How it’s made
Birch plywood
Shelves beside a wall bed often carry books, and birch plywood helps them resist sagging.
Bed mechanism housing
We design the housing around the mechanism and the bed size you choose.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Do you cover homes near Woolwich Dockyard station?
Yes, homes across Newham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Is North Woolwich in the area you cover for wall beds?
Yes. We cover all of Newham and the rest of London, and North Woolwich is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by arrangement. Let us know when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and talk through the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking.
Do photos help?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.
Will a wall bed work on my wall?
That’s something we look at when we measure. Different walls need different fixings, and the mechanism maker’s instructions set what’s needed.
