Bespoke kitchens in North Woolwich, Newham

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make bespoke kitchens for homes in North Woolwich, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • A layout for a small or tricky room
  • Extra cupboard space
  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets

Bespoke kitchens designed for your room

Bespoke kitchens in North Woolwich: what you get

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Every unit is sized from careful measurements taken at the design visit, so there are no filler panels covering awkward gaps. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you, and the kitchen is made in our workshop before it’s fitted. Typical reasons to get in touch are cabinets built around the appliances you choose and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers, and the answer is made in our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Homes built since 2000 rarely have a separate utility room, so a tall cupboard for laundry and cleaning things can help. Around North Woolwich, many homes were built since 2000. Plumbing for appliances is for your plumber.

Everything we agree at the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

How fitting day works

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day starts by covering floors and setting out the sections. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Any hand painting can be finished on site.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are built in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer handle the services.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Getting a quote

A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough measurements and some photos if you have them. When you’re ready, tell us about the room on our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Bespoke kitchens in North Woolwich: local notes

Homes built since 2000 make up about 40% of the housing in the neighbourhood around North Woolwich, with about 26% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 5 entries within half a mile of the centre of North Woolwich. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Since the zone was extended to the outer boroughs in August 2023, the whole of London has been inside the ULEZ. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in North Woolwich is covered by it. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Church of St Mary Magdalene, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. Close to Beckton District Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.

Door style makes a big difference to the look, from simple flat fronts to framed doors.

Moisture-resistant MDF

We use moisture-resistant MDF for many kitchen doors and panels, because it copes with a room that gets warm and steamy.

Questions we’re often asked

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in North Woolwich?

Yes. North Woolwich is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details.

My home in North Woolwich is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?

At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Kitchens are made in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

Where space allows, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we measure for it at the design visit. If the room is narrow, we will suggest other layouts.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You do. We agree the colour with you, and it is set out in the quote.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in North Woolwich?

In a flat, the kitchen may share a wall with the living space or sit in a narrow galley. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room without wasting space.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • A central island in a larger kitchen
  • More storage in a small kitchen

The wider area includes historic houses such as Eastbury Manor House, about 2.9 miles north-east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • A written quote that sets out the job
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Made-to-measure kitchens or ready-made?

Standard cabinets come in set widths, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Ours are made to fit the room, so the runs can fill the space properly. Standalone furniture fixed to plasterboard needs the right fixings, and often doesn’t get them. Fitted furniture is planned with fixings into the studs or made for the board, and heavy pieces can stand on the floor.

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
