Need wall beds in Silvertown?
Why bespoke in Silvertown?
A sofa bed is cheaper and simpler, which suits some homes. A wall bed takes a proper mattress and gives back the floor, which matters in a small room. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why choose Bespoke Carpentry in Silvertown

Wall beds for homes in Silvertown
The mattress has to suit the mechanism; the mechanism maker sets the size, depth and weight it can take. We can go through what the mechanism allows when we measure, so you can choose a mattress that works. Most enquiries start with somewhere comfortable for guests to sleep and a flexible room for a growing family, and the answer is made at our workshop from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.
In a home built since 2000, stud walls may hide pipes and cables, so we check before fixing into them. Around Silvertown, where many homes were built since 2000, it’s part of every design visit. Heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor.
A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

How fitting day works
Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. In a newer home, floors, walls and door frames are often freshly finished, so we protect the route before carrying anything in. Corners and door frames are covered as well. Once inside, the pieces are joined in place.
- We start with what the room is for, day and night.
- We visit, measure up and check the wall the bed will fix to. We also check there’s clear space in front to lower the bed.
- We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The bed and cabinets are fitted in your home and the mechanism fixed securely. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.
Before we arrive

- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Empty the space we will be working in

Wall beds in Silvertown: local notes
Homes built since 2000 make up about 84% of the housing in the streets around Silvertown, with about 13% built between 1973 and 1999, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how wall beds are fixed and fitted. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Silvertown, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than half of the homes in the area around Silvertown (about 84%) were built since 2000, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes often have compact bedrooms with plasterboard stud walls, so fitted furniture is fixed to suit the board.
For a family home near Britannia Village Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. If your home is one of the older houses near St Barnabas' Church, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go. Close to Thames Barrier Park? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window.

We can add shelving around the bed to make use of the whole wall.

FAQs: wall beds in Silvertown
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Silvertown?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can you make wall beds for a home in Silvertown?
Yes. Silvertown is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Newham and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Can a wall bed go on any wall?
That is something we look at when we measure. Different walls need different fixings, and the mechanism maker’s instructions set what’s needed.
Do photos help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Does my lease affect fitted furniture?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on.
What it costs
Several things affect the price:
- Doors and drawers, and how many
- Parking near your home
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.
Helping us understand the room
There is no need for exact sizes or plans. It is enough to send:
- Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
