Wall beds designed for your room
About our wall beds in Tottenham Hale
Many people now work from home in a room that also has to sleep guests. We can design a wall with a fold-down bed and a desk or shelving around it, so the bed doesn’t dominate the working day. Cable routes for the desk can be planned in, though any new sockets are for your electrician. Typical reasons to get in touch are a proper bed instead of a sofa bed and a studio that works by day and night; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Many homes around Tottenham Hale were built since 2000, and across London a lot of homes from those years are compact flats in newer blocks. In a compact bedroom, fitted furniture that reaches the ceiling and uses the corners makes the most difference. Boxing for pipes and risers is designed around rather than left as dead space.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A wall bed is fixed to the house, so it stays when you move. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay before you decide. Large off-the-shelf pieces can make a small room feel smaller, while fitted furniture, painted in a colour that suits the walls, reads as part of the room.
Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Questions from Tottenham Hale
Can you make wall beds for a home in Tottenham Hale?
Yes. Tottenham Hale is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Haringey and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.
My home in Tottenham Hale is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Wall beds are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.
Can you fit a wall bed to a stud wall?
That depends on what the wall and floor are made of. The mechanism must be fixed to a sound wall or floor, as its maker specifies, and we look at this when we measure.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
That’s normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. We scribe the edges to follow the wall and set the furniture level on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not normally. Fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission, even in a conservation area. Listed buildings can need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so ask the council’s conservation officer.
Tottenham Hale homes and wall beds
Homes built since 2000 make up about 35% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Tottenham Hale, with about 27% built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Tottenham Hale, 6 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. If your home in Tottenham Hale is on or near a main road, tell us at the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
Near listed buildings like The Ferry Boat Inn, less than half a mile east of the centre of Tottenham Hale, older homes may keep original joinery that wall beds can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent. Close to Bruce Castle Park? Wall beds are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Flats, leases and landlords
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Tell us about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
Birch plywood gives a strong carcass around a moving bed.
Shelves
A few open shelves beside the bed break up a run of doors.
From workshop to your room
Once the main sections are fixed in place, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly, then checked again. How long fitting takes depends on the design and how much storage goes around the bed, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Newer developments sometimes have their own parking and loading rules, so it’s useful to let us know during the design visit. The furniture comes in sections and is fixed in place. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how often the bed is used. A desk or shelving around the bed can be part of it.
- At the design visit we measure the room, look at the wall and go through the design.
- We send a quote setting out the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- The bed cabinet and any shelves or desk are built in our workshop, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit everything in your home and check the bed lowers and lifts smoothly. The finish is sprayed in our workshop or painted by hand on site.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
How to get a quote

Advice
What prompts wall beds in Tottenham Hale
The most common reason is a spare room that’s rarely slept in. A bed fills the room whether anyone is using it or not, and a wall bed lets the room be used every day.
Most of the enquiries we get are about needs like these:
- A bed that fills a little-used room
- Storage built around a fold-down bed
- A real mattress for visitors
- A study that doubles as a spare room
Bruce Castle, about 1 mile north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where wall beds go.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
