Bespoke kitchens for homes in Colindale
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, from the oven housing to the dishwasher. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. If you are living with a painted dresser for the kitchen and a pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Many homes around Colindale were built since 2000, and some came with kitchens that suit the building more than the people living in it. Cabinets made for your room can take its place, built around your chosen worktop, sink and appliances. Gas, plumbing and electrics are for the right trades.
Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Standard cabinets come in set widths, so most layouts end in a filler panel. Bespoke cabinets are made to the room’s real sizes from wall to wall. Rooms in newer homes are often compact, and standard depths can take too much floor, while fitted furniture can be made shallower where space is tight. It can still go to the ceiling.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that is part of the price. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.
Why work with us in Colindale

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, with heavier pieces tied into the studs. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.
- First, you let us know about the room.
- The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout, where space allows.
- You receive a written quote.
- The kitchen is built in our workshop.
- We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It helps to have those trades booked in good time.
How to prepare
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Arranging a design visit
You do not need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit. To arrange it, send us a few details through our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

What we do not do
As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:
- Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)
- Knocking through or rebuilding walls
- Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.
What goes into it
- Birch plywood
- Hand-painted finish
- Islands where space allows
- Larders and dressers
- Moisture-resistant MDF
- Spray-painted finish
Caring for painted furniture
Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Share the layout with your other trades
- Mention any parking or lift rules
- Think about how you cook and what you store
- Deal with damp walls first
Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, and hinges can be adjusted to keep the gaps even.
Line up your other trades in good time. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, and it’s easier when everyone works from the same design.
Bespoke kitchens in Colindale: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Colindale were built since 2000 (about 50%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 24%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 8 entries within half a mile of the centre of Colindale. Being near listed buildings doesn’t make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Purpose-built flats are more common around Colindale than across Barnet: about 61% of households, against about 37%, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.
For an older house near St Matthias the Apostle church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. If you live in a flat close to Hendon station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in. For families living near Colindale Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer.
Colindale is part of the London Borough of Barnet, about 3 miles east of Finchley. Colindale is part of the area we cover, and the process is the same everywhere we work. Across Barnet, we cover Colindale.
We make bespoke kitchens across the NW9, NW4 and HA8 postcode area for bespoke kitchens. You’ll find streets here like Cecil Road, Booth Road and Ajax Avenue, and we cover homes on all of them for bespoke kitchens. Colindale sits close to the A5150. Nearby, we also make bespoke kitchens in West Hendon (1 mile south), The Hyde (1 mile south), The Burroughs (1 mile east), Hendon (1 mile south-east) and Kingsbury (1 mile south-west). Other parts of Barnet we cover include Finchley (3 miles east), Barnet (5 miles north-east), East Finchley (3 miles east), Whetstone (4 miles north-east), Edgware (2 miles north-west) and Friern Barnet (4 miles east).
Around Colindale
Around Colindale, we cover homes near Saracens High School, Moon Under Water pub and Kisharon College, among other places. For rail, the closest station is Hendon station, roughly 1 mile south-east. A little further out are Edgware Community Hospital (1.3 miles north-west) and Church Farmhouse Museum (0.9 miles east). Open spaces near Colindale include Copthall South Fields.
What affects the cost of bespoke kitchens
The price for your room depends on:
- Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- The internal fittings
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- The width and height of the space
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
Helping us understand the room
These details help when you contact us:
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Your postcode and the borough
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we have measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
I live near Hendon station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Barnet and the rest of London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details about the room.
My home in Colindale is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. Kitchens are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. It helps to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Can you build an island in my kitchen?
If the room is big enough, yes. We measure during the design visit to check there’s room to walk round it and open doors, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.
How much time does fitting need?
How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
Do you supply the worktop and appliances?
We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It is useful to choose them before the design is final, and your quote sets out what’s included.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.
