Bespoke Kitchens in Edgware Bury
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Edgware Bury starts with a design visit, and everything is built in our workshop.
- A kitchen island with room around it
- A layout for a small or awkward room

Bespoke kitchens in Edgware Bury
You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and we design the cabinets around them. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. People typically come to us about making the most of a galley kitchen and open shelves with cupboards below; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Around Edgware Bury, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. Many 1930s houses started with a small kitchen at the back that has since been extended or knocked through. A bespoke kitchen can be planned around the room as it is now, with an island where space allows.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We can’t advise on your lease.
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Fitting day, step by step
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections made in our workshop come in next. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
- We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer handle the services.
Before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
How to get a quote

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Edgware Bury
Is Edgware Bury in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. Edgware Bury is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barnet and London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Edgware Bury?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking during the design visit.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
What happens during the design visit?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.
Edgware Bury homes and bespoke kitchens
About 47% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Edgware Bury went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 34% since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. About 34% of homes around Edgware Bury were built since 2000, well above the figure for Barnet as a whole, about 19%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. Vans bringing furniture to Edgware Bury fall under it, just as they do across the rest of London. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
If your home is one of the older houses near St Andrew, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. Close to Edgwarebury Park? A tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Living in a block of flats near Elstree & Borehamwood station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Before and after fitting day
A little care keeps the finish looking good. These practical tips help:
- Give the paint time to cure fully
- Check there’s room around an island before planning one
- Think about how you cook and what you store
- Deal with damp walls first
Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.
Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Damp behind units can lead to mould, particularly on a colder external wall.
