TV and media units in Edgware Bury

If the TV is wall-mounted, we plan the panels and shelves around the bracket position and the cable route behind it. If it stands on the unit, we size the top to suit, with the cables kept out of sight. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about boxes with no ventilation and a TV stand that doesn’t fit the wall.

Many houses from between the wars, and many semis, have been extended or opened up inside, and around Edgware Bury, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large share of the housing. In a long knocked-through room, TV and media units can run the full length of one wall, or mark out the sitting end from the dining end. New plasterboard in an extension and older brick or block in the original house take different fixings.

A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It sets out the TV unit designed for your room, what it is made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Do you need TV and media units in Edgware Bury?

Games, controllers and remotes need a home. Drawers and cupboards hold them out of sight, and open shelves hold what’s used every day.

If you recognise any of these, it is worth talking to us:

  • Boxes and consoles on the floor
  • Leads that show from every angle
  • Speakers muffled behind doors
  • Somewhere to keep games tidy

For an older house near St Andrew, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at.

Before you choose who makes it

  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • Which parts of the job need an electrician or a plumber
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

What we don’t do

It’s worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband
  • Configuring the TV and sound system
  • Removing a chimney breast or any structural work

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

Materials and parts

  • Ventilated cabinets
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Cable routes
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Fitting day, step by step

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and how many cupboards and shelves it has, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are normally simple, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. TV and media units arrive in sections and are assembled in place, with floors protected throughout.

  1. You tell us about the room and what the unit needs to hold, from set-top boxes to speakers.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout, with ventilation for boxes and amplifiers.
  3. A written quote follows. If anything in it is unclear, ask us.
  4. Once you’re happy, the unit is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. The unit is fitted in your home, ready for your equipment.

How to prepare

  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Keep pets in another room while we work
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

How to get a quote

The quote is built from the design visit. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To arrange the visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Advice

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

FAQs: TV and media units in Edgware Bury

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Elstree & Borehamwood station?

Is Edgware Bury in the area you cover for TV and media units?

Yes, Edgware Bury is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Barnet and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

How do I get a quote?

Just drop us a line using the contact form. It helps to send rough sizes and a few photos, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The fitting depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The making happens in our workshop, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, particularly with rough sizes. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

Edgware Bury homes and TV and media units

About 47% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Edgware Bury went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 34% since 2000, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. What affects the price in Edgware Bury

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Parking near your home

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, which the quote allows for. The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose.

Helping us understand the room

A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you contact us, it helps to send:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • A few photos of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Examples of the look you’re after

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
