Plinths and scribe strips
A plinth hides adjustable feet and lets the cabinets sit level. Scribe strips follow the wall.
Birch plywood
Kitchen drawers carry heavy pans and plates, and birch plywood suits them.
Bespoke kitchens for homes in Gallows Corner
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the worktop you choose can sit level. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about tall larder storage and cabinets for a narrow kitchen.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Gallows Corner, many kitchens have a garden door and a window that shape the layout. The cabinets and any larder or dresser are made for those walls. Your chosen worktop, sink and appliances are fitted into the design, with plumbing and electrics left to your plumber and electrician.
After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It sets out the design we have talked through, the materials and the finish, so you know exactly what you are getting.

When you need someone else
It is worth being clear about where our work stops:
- Wiring for appliances and lights
- Gas work, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
- Painting the walls around the kitchen
If in doubt, you can drop us a line using the contact form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Gallows Corner?
People also want a kitchen that’s built to last and can be repainted, which appeals if you are staying put. Hand painting is simple to touch in or refresh over the years.
Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:
- Extra cupboard space
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
- A layout for a small or awkward room
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
The wider area includes historic houses such as Hare Hall, about 0.5 miles south. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Gallows Corner
Is Gallows Corner in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes, Gallows Corner is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Havering and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Gallows Corner?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Will you connect the sink and appliances?
No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
Do I need to be in when you fit?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You do not need to watch us work.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not typically. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
Fitting day, step by step
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.
- You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan the cabinets around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose.
- A quote in writing follows for the cabinets, materials and finish. Plumbing, gas and electrics are not part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cabinets in your home, working around your plumber, your electrician and a Gas Safe engineer.
Before we arrive
- Tell us about parking near your home
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
Arranging a design visit
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it. For a quote, message us from the contact page.
Advice
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in colours you choose, so the finish can be repainted later. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Gallows Corner
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 37% of the housing in the area around Gallows Corner, with about 37% built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Near the centre of Gallows Corner, Historic England’s list includes The Royal Liberty School (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Havering sets its own rules. If your street in Gallows Corner is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension through the council may be needed. Let us know what the parking is like at the design visit.
