Why bespoke in Farnborough?

Many off-the-shelf kitchens use chipboard carcasses with a printed or wrapped finish. Ours are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray or hand painted, so the finish can be repainted later. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can use the full height too.

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. The quote allows for it, written once we’ve measured up.

About our bespoke kitchens in Farnborough

We make kitchens to fit the room, not a catalogue of set sizes. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. The layout, storage and finish are planned with you, and the kitchen is made in our workshop before it is fitted. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a larder for food and small appliances and cabinets built around the appliances you choose.

Around Farnborough, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Gas work is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that is spray painting or hand painting.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Farnborough

I live near Orpington station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Farnborough?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

It can be done with some care: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.

What affects the price in Farnborough

There’s no set price, because there is no set room. The things that affect it are:

  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Helping us understand the room

To help us picture the room, please include:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. When you are ready, fill in our short enquiry form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Farnborough

In the streets around Farnborough, the largest groups of homes date from between 1973 and 1999 (about 31%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The Farnborough Village Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Farnborough. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you’re unsure. The Ultra Low Emission Zone has covered all of London since it reached the outer boroughs on 29 August 2023. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Farnborough. We go through parking and access at the measuring visit.

For families living near Farnborough Primary School, a drawer set aside for lunch boxes and water bottles keeps mornings calmer. If you live near South Park, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Farnborough

A common reason is a room that ready-made units don’t fit. Off-the-shelf cabinets come in set widths, and the gaps get filled with panels. A bespoke kitchen is made to the room instead.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • An island where space allows
  • A kitchen finished in your colours

If you live in a flat close to Orpington station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
  • Have they thought about parking near you?

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and that happens on fitting day. Few walls in older London homes are truly flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You let us know about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Preparing the room

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Getting a quote

Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.
