A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, sized to what you keep in them. Built into an alcove or the end of a wall, it puts tricky space to work. If you are living with cabinets for a narrow kitchen and an island where space allows, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Green Street Green, that is a feature worth designing around. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Tips worth knowing

Fresh paintwork takes a while to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Treat new paintwork gently at first
  • Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
  • Check there is room around an island before planning one

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time is not good for any finish. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Measure the route into the kitchen not just the room. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so let us know about tight turns or small lifts.

Kitchens in Green Street Green: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Green Street Green were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 45%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Green Street Green include Chelsfield Hall Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile south-east, and Denbarn Farmhouse (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west. For a listed home, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your street in Green Street Green joins a main road, it is worth telling us at the design visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.

Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. The wider area includes historic houses such as Down House, about 2.1 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Green Street Green?

An extension or a knocked-through room is a common starting point. A new layout deserves a kitchen designed for it. The building work itself is for your builder.

Some of the things we are asked to solve are these:

  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • A larder for food and small appliances
  • An island where space allows

For a flat near Chelsfield station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Green Street Green

I live near Chelsfield station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Green Street Green?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London, and Green Street Green is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

You choose the worktop, sink and appliances, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size of the room, the number of units and the finish all make a difference. To arrange a design visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

Will you connect the sink and appliances?

No, those are jobs for other trades. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician, while we make and fit the cabinets.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. In return, the storage, layout and finish are designed for you. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

How fitting day works

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and that happens on fitting day. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.

  1. You tell us about the room and how you use it.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the layout.
  3. A quote follows, covering the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: we fit the cabinets, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe engineer handle the services. We do not arrange these trades ourselves.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Ask for a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. When you’re ready, use our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a quote in writing.

Advice

Flats, blocks and rented homes

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.
