Loft storage for your home in Farnborough

Loft storage in Farnborough: what you get

Dormers are a natural place for shelving or a small desk. Their sides are often angled, and their walls rarely straight. We scribe the furniture to follow them. It uses space that might otherwise be wasted. At the design visit in Farnborough, we’ll look at what fits. We make eaves cupboards from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about wasted space behind the knee walls and ready-made wardrobes too big for the stairs.

An interwar house normally has a proper landing, sometimes with a recess or an airing cupboard, and that space can take shallow fitted storage. Around Farnborough, where interwar homes and semis are a big part of the housing, the landing is worth a look as well as the hall. Any boiler or hot water cylinder keeps the access and ventilation its maker asks for.

We write quotes in plain English. They say what will be made, what it’s made from and how it will be finished.

What prompts loft storage in Farnborough

Many people get in touch once their loft conversion is complete. Standard furniture rarely suits the new room. Fitted storage finishes the room.

We are often asked to help with:

  • Nowhere to store bags and boxes
  • A loft room with too many jobs
  • A converted loft with no fitted furniture
  • An empty dormer that could hold shelves

If you live near South Park, eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

What to check before you book

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • Whether the route into your home has been checked
  • Where they’ll park and unload

Your questions about loft storage in Farnborough

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Do you make loft storage for homes in Farnborough?

Yes, Farnborough is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, followed by a quote.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, Saturdays are possible by prior arrangement. Let us know when you first get in touch.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. Damp treatment is not something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

What do eaves cupboards cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. It depends on how much storage you want, the shape of the room and the finish. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

How long is the fitting for eaves storage?

How long fitting takes depends on the shape of the room and the number of cupboards and drawers, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The storage is made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is spent fitting. We work tidily and keep the stairs and landing as clear as we can.

Fitting day, step by step

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Interwar houses typically have a straight run of stairs and a reasonable hallway, but the route in is still measured, not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it’s going.

  1. It starts when you get in touch about storage in your loft.
  2. We visit to measure and look at what’s behind the knee walls.
  3. A written quote follows, with the fitting days agreed. You can ask us about any of it.
  4. Your storage is built in our workshop, shaped to the loft.
  5. The storage is fitted and set level, ready to fill, with the doors and drawers checked with you.

Practical tips

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Measure the loft stairs, the turns and the landing
  • Decide whether you’d prefer drawers, cupboards or both
  • Note any vents or insulation in the eaves
  • Make room so the whole loft can be measured

Once the fitting is done, the storage is ready to use. New paintwork takes time to cure fully, so go easy on it to begin with. Keep tape and strong cleaners away from it while it settles.

Loft rooms can be warm in summer and cool in winter. A little ventilation helps. It helps the storage stay in good condition.

Farnborough homes and loft storage

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Farnborough were built between 1973 and 1999 (about 31%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 27%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for eaves cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The centre of Farnborough is within about a quarter of a mile of the Farnborough Village Conservation Area. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Your council can advise if you are unsure. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Bromley has its own. If your road in Farnborough falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what the parking is like at the measuring visit.

For a family home near Farnborough Primary School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If your home is one of the older houses near Church of St Giles the Abbot, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

What we do not do

We make and fit furniture, and we don’t do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Building Regulations approval for a conversion
  • Fixing damp or ventilation problems in the eaves

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf furniture is made for straight walls and full-height ceilings. Under a slope, it leaves large gaps and wasted space. Storage made for the loft follows its shape. It costs more than off-the-shelf furniture, and what you gain is the space a standard piece cannot reach. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can use the full height too.

We don’t publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.
