Why bespoke in Forty Hill?

A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size comes first. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.

Why us?

  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Scribed to uneven walls
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • We work across all London boroughs

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Forty Hill

Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens well, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. If your home has a kitchen planned around your appliances and a kitchen finished in your colours, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, and the recesses beside it can take a dresser or larder. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Forty Hill, that’s a feature worth designing around. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and it’s what the workshop builds to.

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • How square the room is
  • Parking near your home
  • The overall size of the piece
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What to send when you get in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. If you can, send:

  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any

Rough sizes are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To get started, message us from the contact page and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning at the measuring visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You tell us about the room and how you use it. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build and finish the kitchen in our workshop. The materials are moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Let us know about parking near your home

Honest limits

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Structural changes to the room
  • Making good walls and ceilings
  • Moving water or waste pipes

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood

Tips worth knowing

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Think about how the cabinets will get in
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Check there’s room around an island before planning one

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Talk to your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register early. Their work and ours need to fit together, and it is easier when everyone works from the same design.

Kitchens in Forty Hill: local notes

In the area around Forty Hill, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 43%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 24%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Forty Hill is in a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Enfield are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. It is useful to tell us about parking at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat close to Turkey Street station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room. For a family home near Worcesters Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, like Forty Hall, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Questions we are often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Forty Hill?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Is Forty Hill in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, we work across Enfield, Forty Hill included, and across the rest of London. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need permission in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

How long does fitting take?

Every kitchen is different. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you can plan your other trades around it.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No, that work is for other trades. Your plumber connects the sink and dishwasher, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register handles any gas, and your electrician does the wiring, while we make and fit the cabinets.
