Bespoke kitchens for homes in Enfield Highway

We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it copes with a room that gets steamy. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well. Cabinets are spray painted in the workshop or hand painted, in colours agreed with you. If your home has a painted kitchen in a colour you choose and extra cupboard space, kitchens made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.

An island needs space around it to work, and not every kitchen has that. Around Enfield Highway, a big part of the housing is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and some of those kitchens have been opened up enough to take one. The space around any island is measured at the measuring visit. Services to an island are for your plumber and electrician.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What it’s made from

Larder and dresser units

Larders and dressers can fill an alcove or end a run in a way standard units cannot.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF gives a smooth surface for painted doors, in a kitchen as anywhere.

What affects the price in Enfield Highway

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • How square the room is
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that’s part of the price. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Before the design visit

When you contact us, these help most:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • How you want to use the space
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

Rough sizes are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, get in touch through our contact form. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

When you need someone else

We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:

  • New sockets or circuits
  • Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Materials and parts

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers
  • Birch plywood
  • Spray-painted finish

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You contact us about a bespoke kitchen.
  2. At the design visit we plan the kitchen and talk about colours and finish.
  3. A written quote follows, with the finish agreed.
  4. We make the kitchen in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF, which suits kitchens and takes paint well, and birch plywood.
  5. The kitchen is fitted and scribed to the walls, with any hand painting done in the room.
  6. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician; new paintwork needs gentle use while it cures.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Starting with a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them tell us a lot about the space, along with rough sizes. To share them, use our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Kitchens in Enfield Highway: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 55% of the housing in the streets around Enfield Highway, with about 16% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Part of Enfield Highway is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Enfield is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Enfield Highway. Parking and access are planned at the design visit.

Near listed buildings like Wright's Almshouses, less than half a mile west of the centre of Enfield Highway, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If you live in a period home close to St James' Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. The wider area includes historic houses such as Forty Hall, about 1.3 miles north-west. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Enfield Highway is within the London Borough of Enfield, about 3 miles south of Edmonton. Homes in Enfield Highway are part of the area we cover for bespoke kitchens, as part of our work in every London borough. Our work takes in places right across Enfield, large and small.

We make bespoke kitchens across EN3 and EN1 for bespoke kitchens. You’ll find streets here such as Hoe Lane, Old Road and East Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. If you are just outside Enfield Highway, we also cover Brimsdown (1 mile east), Enfield Lock (1 mile north-east) and Forty Hill (1 mile west). Across the rest of Enfield, our area takes in Edmonton (3 miles south), Enfield (2 miles west), Palmers Green (4 miles south-west), New Southgate (5 miles south-west), Enfield Chase (2 miles west) and Bush Hill Park (2 miles south-west).

Around Enfield Highway

We fit furniture in homes around Aylward Academy, Russet House School and The White Horse Public House and the streets around them. The closest station to Enfield Highway is Brimsdown station, about 0.6 miles south-east of the centre. Well-known places in the area include St Michaels Hospital (1.9 miles west) and Museum of Enfield (1.9 miles south-west).

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Brimsdown station?

Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Enfield Highway?

Yes. Enfield Highway is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Enfield and London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We are carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by a Gas Safe engineer and electrics by your electrician, and we plan the cabinets around their work.

Is there room for an island in my kitchen?

If the room is big enough, yes. We measure at the measuring visit to check there’s room to walk round it and open doors, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.

Does my lease affect fitted furniture?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some need consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on.

How long does fitting take?

How long fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Looking after your furniture

Getting the most from bespoke kitchens starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Make a note of what you use every day
  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Know your appliance sizes early

Use the cooker hood or open a window when cooking, to keep steam off the cabinets. Good ventilation helps paintwork last.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on external walls.
