Bespoke kitchens in Bush Hill Park: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Bush Hill Park were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and before 1919 (about 27%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Bush Hill Park, Historic England’s list includes The Tower (Grade II), about 0.5 miles west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, such as fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If you live on or close to a main road in Bush Hill Park, let us know at the measuring visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
Close to Enfield Town Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. For families living near The Raglan Junior School, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

About our bespoke kitchens in Bush Hill Park
Kitchens in period houses bring their own challenges. Walls lean, corners are not square and floors slope, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. We scribe the cabinets to the walls and set them level on adjustable feet or a plinth, so the worktop you choose can sit level. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about room for everything in the kitchen and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets.
In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Bush Hill Park, kitchens often have a back door to the garden and a window over the sink. The cabinets and any larder or dresser are made for those walls. The worktop, sink and appliances you choose are built in.
Where other trades are needed, for example an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Bush Hill Park?
Many people come to us because a standard kitchen does not suit their room. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, and the gaps get filled with panels. A bespoke kitchen is made to the room from the start.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- Extra cupboard space
- A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
- An island where space allows
- Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
For a flat near Bush Hill Park station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.
Choosing a carpenter
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
When is bespoke worth it?
A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Caring for painted furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Make sure walls are dry before cabinets go in
- Treat new paintwork gently at first
- Think about how the cabinets will get in
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Houses move a little with the seasons, so hinges allow small adjustments later.
Leasehold flats can have rules about alterations, so check your lease early. We can’t advise on your lease.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Neither choice is right for every home. If the room is square and the budget is tight, a ready-made kitchen may do the job. For period homes, awkward rooms or a painted look, bespoke tends to earn its place. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Bush Hill Park
Do you cover homes near Bush Hill Park station?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Bush Hill Park?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. Some leases need the building owner’s consent before you make alterations, including fixing furniture to the walls. We can’t advise on leases, so please check yours.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
How much time does fitting need?
The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We’ll talk it through during the design visit.
Can I have a kitchen island?
Yes, where there is space. At the design visit we check the clearances around it. If it would crowd the kitchen, we’ll say so.
Fitting day, step by step
You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.
- First, you let us know about the room.
- The design visit covers measuring and planning the layout.
- You receive a written quote, setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The kitchen is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics. It’s useful to have those trades booked in good time.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
