We make the cabinets; the worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose. Knowing the appliance sizes early lets us leave the right spaces, so everything fits as it should. Your quote sets out the materials and finish. If your home has a kitchen that fits an uneven room and a kitchen planned around your appliances, that is what kitchens are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In streets where many homes were built before 1919, as they were around Oakthorpe Park, a chimney breast often survives in the kitchen, and it can frame a range cooker or a dresser. Any capped chimney should stay ventilated, and damp is dealt with before anything is fitted. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Bespoke kitchens for homes in Oakthorpe Park

In the neighbourhood around Oakthorpe Park, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 53%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Within a mile of the centre of Oakthorpe Park, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. The share of homes built before 1919 around Oakthorpe Park, about 53%, is well above the figure for Enfield as a whole, about 23%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. So older-house details are more likely to come into the design of kitchens.

The wider area includes historic houses like Bruce Castle, about 1.7 miles south-east. If your own home is a period one, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. Near listed buildings like Broomfield House Broomfield Park, about 0.5 miles west of the centre of Oakthorpe Park, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features.

Oakthorpe Park is about 2 miles east of Edmonton, part of the London Borough of Enfield. Design visits and fitting in Oakthorpe Park can be on a Saturday, by prior arrangement. Oakthorpe Park is one of the places in Enfield where we make bespoke kitchens, and the borough has 26 places on our list.

Postcode districts we cover here for bespoke kitchens: N13, N22 and N11. You’ll find streets here like Wolves Lane, Park Avenue and Russell Road, and homes on each of them are within our area for bespoke kitchens. The A105 run close to Oakthorpe Park, so if your home is on a main road, mention it when you get in touch. Close by, we also work in Palmers Green (1 mile north-west), Arnos Grove (1 mile west), Bounds Green (1 mile south-west), Bowes Park (1 mile south) and Southgate (1 mile north-west). Across the rest of Enfield, our area takes in Edmonton (2 miles east), Enfield (3 miles north), Enfield Chase (3 miles north), Bush Hill Park (2 miles north-east), Upper Edmonton (2 miles east) and Gordon Hill (4 miles north).

How it’s made

Plinths and scribe strips

In a period kitchen, where nothing is quite level, plinths and scribe strips do a lot of quiet work.

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF gives a smooth surface for painted doors, in a kitchen as anywhere.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Oakthorpe Park

Others want the kitchen to suit the age of the house. Painted cabinets, a dresser or a larder can sit well with original features and suit the house’s character.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Tall larder storage
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen
  • Room for everything in the kitchen
  • Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls

If your children go to St Anne's Catholic High School for Girls or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

What to check before you book

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Is parking a problem for fitting in Oakthorpe Park?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Oakthorpe Park?

Yes, Oakthorpe Park is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Enfield and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, and then we send a quote.

Can I have a kitchen island?

Where space allows, yes. An island needs clear floor around it to open doors and move about, and we check this at the design visit. In a narrow kitchen, a longer run or a peninsula may suit better.

How is the furniture painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some need consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so check it or ask your managing agent.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A small galley and a large kitchen with a larder and island are very different jobs, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form.

Before and after fitting day

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Line up your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer early
  • Let us know how parking works on your street
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
  • Know your appliance sizes early

Once the kitchen is fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Go easy on the painted surfaces at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Line up your other trades in good time. The pipes, cables and gas supply need to suit the layout, and it’s easier when everyone works from the same design.

From workshop to your room

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On fitting day in an older house, the main job is scribing to walls and levelling on floors that slope, so there is some trimming and adjusting on site. Floors are protected, and dust is kept down as far as possible. Parking can be tight on terraced streets, so let us know about permits and bays at the design visit.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Preparing the room

  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
