Window Seats in Harrow Weald
Window seats for bays and under sash windows, with storage inside, for homes in Harrow Weald. We measure, design and quote first, then make it in our workshop and fit it.
- Wanting a seat without blocking the radiator
- No comfortable place to sit in the light
- Standard furniture leaving gaps in a bay
Need window seats in Harrow Weald?
Could you do it yourself?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that aren’t square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
Window seats for homes in Harrow Weald
We make each window seat in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, which suits a seat that takes weight every day, and MDF gives the fronts and panels a smooth surface for paint. It is then spray-painted or hand-painted and fitted in your home in Harrow Weald. If you are living with an empty bay that doesn’t get used and a radiator under the window getting in the way, window seats made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.
Coats, shoes, bags and the vacuum cleaner all need somewhere to go in a family house. Around Harrow Weald, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses make up a big part of the housing, well-planned storage by the door or under the stairs can take a lot of it. Anything that needs to stay reachable, like meters or a fuse board, is designed around.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so you can check every detail beforehand.

What else we make in Harrow Weald
Common questions about window seats
Do you cover homes near Headstone Lane station?
Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
Which is better under a window seat, a lid or drawers?
Many seats use both. Drawers suit things you use often, and a lid suits bulky items. For children’s rooms, drawers are usually easier to manage. We talk it through when we visit.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.
Fitting day, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it’s useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on whether the seat has drawers, a lift-up lid or a radiator grille, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Loft stairs in an interwar house can be tight, with a low ceiling at the top, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is typically more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.
- You contact us with a few details about the bay or recess.
- We visit to measure the angles of the bay and the floor, and go through the design.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The seat is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, following the angles we measured.
- On fitting day the seat is set level and scribed to follow the walls and floor, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
Before fitting day
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Tell us about parking near your home
Arranging a design visit
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Near listed buildings like Harrow Weald House Farm, less than half a mile north-east of the centre of Harrow Weald, older homes may keep original joinery that window seats can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For a flat near Headstone Lane station, window seats are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check at the design visit.
If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Bespoke seats are scribed to the walls and set level, so it fits neatly at the walls and floor. A ready-made piece sits in the space rather than being part of it. In an older room, the difference shows. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors aren’t perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.
