Bespoke Kitchens in Roxeth

Bespoke kitchens in Roxeth: what you get
We often use moisture-resistant MDF in kitchens, because it stays stable and takes paint beautifully. For drawer boxes and shelves, birch plywood is a good choice. The finish is spray painted in our workshop or hand painted, in the colours you choose. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a central island in a larger kitchen and more storage in a small kitchen.
A good part of the housing around Roxeth is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Many 1930s houses started with a small kitchen at the back that has since been extended or knocked through. A bespoke kitchen can be planned around the room as it is now.
The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it.
If the property is let, we’ll need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. In return, the storage, layout and finish are designed for you. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and those are common in interwar houses. Fitted furniture is made around them.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Roxeth
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Roxeth?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Is Roxeth in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?
Yes. Roxeth is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Harrow and London. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details.
How much time does fitting need?
The time the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.
What if the wall is cold or damp?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture to avoid condensation. If there’s damp, it should be sorted before anything is fitted.
Do I get to choose the colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.
Caring for painted furniture
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Make sure an island will not crowd the room
- List what needs a home in the kitchen
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Know your appliance sizes early
New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Go easy on the painted surfaces at first and avoid harsh cleaners. In time, mild soapy water and a soft cloth keep them clean.
Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Damp behind units can lead to mould, particularly on a colder external wall.
What bespoke kitchens can’t fix
Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:
- Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
- Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
- Making good walls and ceilings
Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can message us from the contact page and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- It starts with a short note from you about the room.
- We visit to plan the layout and check how the cabinets will get into the room.
- A quote in writing follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
- We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.
Before fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
Starting with a design visit
The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.
Advice
Bespoke kitchens in Roxeth: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Roxeth were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 42%) and before 1919 (about 19%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Near the centre of Roxeth, Historic England’s list includes The Old Schools (Grade I), about 0.6 miles north-east, and The White Cottage (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles south-east. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character can require listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. More than a third of the homes in the area around Roxeth (about 42%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Many houses of that era have had the kitchen extended or knocked through, so the kitchen is designed for the room as it is now.
If you live near Northwick Park, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design. Living in a block of flats near Sudbury Hill Harrow station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. For a family home near Roxeth Primary School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.
