Bespoke kitchens in Kenley: what you get

We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets, while other trades handle the services. Your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around where their work goes. If your home has tall larder storage and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets, kitchens made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

Around Kenley, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the walls are often straighter than in a Victorian house, but they’re still measured carefully. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.

You get the quote in writing, so there’s time to read it properly and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Kenley?

Many people come to us because a standard kitchen does not suit their room. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, and the gaps get filled with panels. Bespoke cabinets are built to the real sizes from the start.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Open shelves with cupboards below
  • A layout for a small or tricky room
  • A kitchen that fits an uneven room
  • More storage in a small kitchen

If you live near Dollypers Hill, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

What to check before you book

  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • Whether you will get a quote in writing, not just a figure
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors

Where other trades come in

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work aren’t part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Building work, like removing walls
  • Plastering, tiling or decorating
  • Electrics, sockets and lighting (your electrician)

Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

What it is made from

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Larders and dressers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Islands where space allows

Before and after fitting day

People planning bespoke kitchens often ask about these. They help whatever the room:

  • Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
  • Let us know about parking at the design visit
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • List what needs a home in the kitchen

Follow the appliance makers’ guidance for your oven, hob and dishwasher, and the care advice for your worktop.

If you live in a leasehold flat, check your lease before changing the kitchen. We can’t advise on your lease.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Kenley

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Kenley?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.

Is Kenley in the area you cover for bespoke kitchens?

Yes, Kenley is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Croydon and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Can I choose my own worktop and appliances?

We plan the kitchen around the worktop, sink and appliances you choose. It helps to choose them before the design is final, and the quote confirms what’s included.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Can I have a kitchen island?

If the room is big enough, yes. At the design visit we check the clearances around it, and suggest another layout if it would crowd the room.

Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?

Yes, that is part of the job. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cabinet is scribed and levelled.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Kenley

About 32% of the homes in the area around Kenley went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 31% between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for kitchens, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Kenley, Historic England’s list includes Church of All Saints (Grade II), less than half a mile south-west, and Kenley Station House (original 1856 Building) (Grade II), under half a mile west. Where a home is listed, listed building consent can be needed for inside works that affect its character, like fixing into original panelling. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. London’s red routes are run by TfL, and stopping on them is tightly controlled. Where a home in Kenley is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that at the measuring visit. It lets us plan the stop before fitting day.

What affects the price in Kenley

Prices vary from room to room, and it comes down to:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The width and height of the space

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

When you contact us, these help most:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
  • The type of home and how the room is reached
  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. At the design visit, we measure up and talk the design through with you, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

In older rooms, the furniture typically has to meet skirting, picture rails, cornice or coving. We cut and scribe the furniture around them on site. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It’s useful to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. We start with how you cook and what the kitchen needs to hold. Larders, dressers and islands can all be part of it, where space allows.
  2. We visit to measure and go through the design and storage. We note where the water, gas and sockets are now.
  3. We send a quote in writing setting out the cabinets, materials and finish.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop.
  5. We fit the cabinets in your home; plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Take anything hanging off the wall we’re fitting to
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
