Bespoke kitchens in Roxbourne
A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. We can build larders with shelves, drawers or racks inside the doors, planned around what you store. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are a larder for food and small appliances and a dresser that suits a period house.
An island needs space around it to work, and not every kitchen has that. Interwar, semi-detached and detached homes make up a big part of the housing around Roxbourne, and in an extended kitchen there may be space. The space around any island is measured at the design visit. Your plumber and electrician run any services to it.
The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the kitchen designed for your room, its materials and its finish.

Boards, parts and paint
Plinths and scribe strips
Scribing is how cabinets meet a wall that is not flat for a close fit.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. Chips are simple to touch in.
Flats, conversions and lettings
If your building is on a red route or a busy main road, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so tell us about it at the design visit.
In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways as well as the room, so each section is sized to get through.
Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Do you cover homes near South Ruislip station?
Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room.
Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Roxbourne?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character may need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Should I send photos?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough measurements. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
How much time does fitting need?
The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
What do you do at the measuring visit?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.
Made-to-measure kitchens in Roxbourne
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 76% of the housing in the area around Roxbourne, with about 12% built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Roxbourne is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Strict stopping rules apply on red routes, which TfL runs. Where a home in Roxbourne is on or beside a main road, it helps to mention that during the design visit. We will plan where the van can stop.
For a flat near South Ruislip station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in. If your children go to The Moriah Jewish Day School or a school nearby, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

- Moisture-resistant MDF
Do you need bespoke kitchens in Roxbourne?
Uneven walls and floors make standard kitchens hard to fit. Cabinets end up with gaps or tilted lines, and a bespoke kitchen is scribed and levelled to avoid that.
A few of the things people ask us to solve include:
- A painted dresser for the kitchen
- A kitchen finished in your colours
- Making the most of a galley kitchen
- A central island in a larger kitchen
If you live near Eastcote House Gardens, a tall cupboard for outdoor things can be part of the kitchen design.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Can you see real work of theirs?
- A written quote that sets out the job
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
How fitting day works
When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and lift the floor protection. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and explain how to look after the paint. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- You get in touch and describe the kitchen you want.
- We visit to measure and go through the layout and the finish, spray-painted or hand-painted.
- A quote in writing follows, with the finish agreed.
- The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and a spray finish is applied there for a smooth, even surface.
- We fit the cabinets in your home; a hand-painted finish is applied on site and is easy to touch up later.
- Treat new paint gently while it cures; the plumbing, gas and electrics are done by your own plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
Before fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
