Walk-in wardrobes designed for your room
How we make walk-in wardrobes for Roxbourne
A box room is often too small for a bed but just right for a dressing room. Lined with hanging and shelves, it can hold far more than a wardrobe in the bedroom, leaving the bedroom with more space. We plan the layout so you can stand, turn and see everything. We make walk-in wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and people most often get in touch about a walk-in wardrobe in a box room and a walk-in wardrobe within the bedroom.
Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. A big part of the housing around Roxbourne is interwar, semi-detached or detached. We work in lofts that are already converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.
The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It records the design, the materials and the finish we discussed.

How fitting day works
Getting everything level comes first. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- We start with the space and the clothes it needs to hold.
- We visit to measure up and go through the layout.
- A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
- We build everything in our workshop.
- Fitting day: the units are fitted and trimmed to the room.
Before we arrive
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
Arranging a design visit
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Long hanging is kept for coats and dresses, and the rest can be double hung.
Bedroom storage in Roxbourne
About 76% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Roxbourne went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 12% between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Roxbourne, Historic England’s list includes Ace Cinema (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles east, and The Rayners Public House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles east. If your own home is listed, internal works that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. More than half of the homes in the streets around Roxbourne (about 76%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead.
Living in a block of flats near South Ruislip station? Then the route in is measured as well as the room, and the sections are sized to fit it. Headstone Manor, about 1.8 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a family home near The Moriah Jewish Day School, walk-in wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules, so it is worth raising at the measuring visit.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, after checking the walls at the measuring visit.
Is bespoke worth it?
A basic rail system is easy to change, and that has real appeal. Bespoke joinery lets you mix doors, drawers, shelves and hanging, in a finish that suits the house. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Your questions about walk-in wardrobes in Roxbourne
I live near South Ruislip station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Roxbourne?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
It needs a little planning: ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps avoid condensation and mould. We do not treat damp, so any damp should be sorted before fitting day.
Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so it is worth checking before fitting day.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, Saturdays are possible by arrangement. Just mention it when you get in touch.
